During a press conference Sunday morning, FBI spokesman Danny Banks officially classified the shootings at Pulse Nightclub as an "act of terrorism."
The FBI, along with numerous other agencies, was investigating the shooting and it was not clear if it was an act of domestic or foreign terrorism.

In the old days of wild wild west, there were no mass shootings, even though cowboys always had their guns in saloons. And people were probably afraid to antagonize any bar patrons because everybody carried. In short, the guns created a civil and orderly and law abiding society.
What gun control advocates from foreign countries do not understand (along with liberals in US) that there are more guns in private hands in US than there are people. With gun control, the law abiding will be stripped and the criminals will not obey any gun control laws.

The suspected Islamic extremist who killed about 20 people after taking party-goers hostage inside a gay club in Orlando has been identified.
Law enforcement sources have identified the shooter, who was wielding an assault rifle and a handgun, as US citizen Omar Mateen, from Port St. Lucie in Florida.
The gunman, who was born to Afghan parents, was carrying a suspicious device, possibly a suicide vest, when he opened fire on the dance floor inside Pulse in the early hours of this morning.

President Obama:
Good morning. Last night a depraved American citizen began firing a big gun in the midst of innocent party-goers in an Orlando nightclub. Our country is under siege from all forms of hate, on both sides of the ideological divide, and this must stop. The FBI has not ruled out terrorism.
Until we know more, I caution our citizens not to overreact, and not to jump to conclusions, in knee-jerk fashion as many on a particular side are prone to do, about the role religion may have played in this tragic shooting. With a gun.
It is not who we are, or who we want to be, to discriminate against people of any religion just because some among them ascribe a conservative, literal meaning to its scriptures.
As to the victims and their families, our hearts go out to you, and we all feel sad for your loss. And remember, it was my administration which allowed many of your sons and daughters the dignity of legal marriage, hopefully compensating in some way for the fact that because of guns, they are no longer with us.
Because guns. Without guns, this wouldn’t have happened.
We need to restrict guns more, and I assure you we will propose appropriate legislation designed to accomplish this objective.
