Boy Scouts participation off limits to judges, says California Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of California announced Friday that California judges will no longer be permitted to participate in nonprofit youth groups like the Boy Scouts of America due to the groups position on gay rights issues.

But justices have lifted a ban on judges belonging to a military organization now that LGBT people can serve openly in the U.S. Armed Services, The Bay Area Reporter reported Thursday.

The court found fault with the scouting group, which does allow gay youth to participate but bans LGBT adults from serving as troop leaders.

The decision reversed a previous rule that gave nonprofit youth groups and exception from ethics rules that prohibit judges from holding membership in any organization that practices discrimination on the basis on race, sex, gender, religion, national origin, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

The newspaper reported that judges will have until January 21, 2016 to comply with the new rule.

Both the Boy Scouts and the Augusta National Golf Club, have recently and successfully, defended their right to include/exclude anyone they want.
IIRC, they cited the USSC Boy Scouts v. Dale case.

There was a judge here in Orange County who kept an online pedophilia journal. Someone hacked into it and exposed the judge including his name. No judge organization removed him; he hadn’t committed a crime. He wrote things about the boys he was attracted to when he was a volunteer umpire. He looked for boys who had hard working single mothers, and would offer to drive them to practice, take them to dinner. He would say things like, “Damn, that Steven is growing leg hairs. Not interested in him any more.” He wanted them before puberty.

John and Ken on the radio got the word out and at the next election when this judge was running unopposed and literally have a write in campaign to get him out. The judges’ bar or whatever didn’t do anything to him.

I pray that America can recover from all the damage inflicted by our enemies under their maliciously destructive leader. BSA was a source of greatness, to the point that people with character were often praised (or derided) as "a Boy Scout" well into adulthood.
