The PGA Tour has been going to Doral, Florida, for 55 straight years. From 1962 until 2006, it visited for the Doral Open, and then in 2007, it began hosting the WGC-Cadillac Championship, which continued until this past year. Fifty-five straight years of PGA Tour golf in Doral.
Well, we might have seen professional golf there for the last time -- at least in the immediate future -- when Adam Scott defeated Rory McIlroy and others at Trump National in March. That's because the PGA Tour has decided to pull one of its marquee events out of the course near Miami and move it to Mexico City for a WGC event in 2017.

I suspect he is doing a lot better than the average club pro or web.com player..
Just more anti-American scum being outed thanks to Trump. May the PGA reap what they sowed!!!
Watch this be an epic fail.
Same PGA that knew of Tiger’s Woods running around but kept quite because of the ratings (i.e. money)
I won’t attend another event until Trump is President, then I’ll go proudly wearing my “Make America Great Again” Golf cap.
Good, when a gentleman like Jack endorses you, it means something.
Ditto.
Ridiculous.
What do you want to bet El Chappo will be the first to tee off - along with Vincente Fox?
We’ve become a nation of petulant morons.
The PGA was never alive to me. So.. Meh. I’ve had more memorable times watching paint dry and grass grow than watching golf on TV.
Hit 'em all in the pocketbook...and start NOW!
We are ROLLING THUNDER if we want to be!

Let’s Roll as the heroes said!!!
Yea, Id really love to fly to Mexico City to play in a golf tournament.
Flew into Mexico City once...never again.
Good point.. Trump should have no trouble finding sponsors to host an event at Doral during the same week as the WGC...It will be interesting to see if the marquee players have “other commitments”, and will be unable to play in the WGC...Silly move by the PGA.
Trump: eliminating the PGA Tour event would actually make good business sense for his property.
“I would make much more money at Doral if I didn’t have a tournament,” he said. “(March) is the prime month in Florida, you can’t get a room and I have the best rooms in Miami. I love the tournament, it’s been here 50 years. With all of that said, I would make much more money.”

PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem served in the White House under Jimmy Carter as Deputy Advisor to the President in 1978 and 1979.
Interesting.
The pros really don’t like Miami. And Doral is not in a good location. It’s near the airport and right under the landing path for the diagonal runway. They reroute the flights when the tournament is on TV. Also in the past, the course has been in horrible condition. The PGA tour had to show up a month ahead of time to fix the course up and there would still be acres of ground under repair on the non-televised holes.
Twenty years ago I heard a couple of caddies talking about how they felt they were going to die when they were in the surrounding neighborhood at night. (A couple of years after that a caddie was shot.) For the pros it’s not so bad. They get to stay on the grounds and many like to fish in the lakes. I don’t see how Mexico City is going to be any better, though.
Here’s another take on why the PGA tour will leave Doral. The players don’t like the course either:

Designers often don’t take into account the cool, damp and windy weather Florida has in the winter. It doesn’t mix well with water hazards or slick undulating greens.
“The major guys surely will skip the event. Trump would be smart to hold his own event there”
********************
It is a WGC event only top 70 in the world invited, no cut guaranteed pay day of 60k or so. Given the strength of the field it is also important for the top guys to play to maintain their world ranking.
No one (barring injury or extreme family personal situation) will skip it. Now wether or not any families come along is a different question.
