——The admission suggests that Trump will be far more dependent on the GOP brass for money than he has led voters to believe, but it’s consistent with his reliance on the Republican National Committee to provide a ground game in battleground states.-——

How silly of his die hard supporters here to believe Trump would never take DC money....and run his campaign only by self funding...

Yes, lots of you did....in post after post after post....

I keep reading how he was going to destroy the GOPe when all along he would eventually have to work with the very people some many here were thinking He would kill off....

He will need every penny the RNC and big donors can pony up to beat cankles....

Well, based on Trump interviews, when asked about the general if he would self fund, he would always leave it up in the air. He said he would do it for the primaries, but he didn’t know about the general. It sounded to me like he was going to be taking at least some RNC funds.

Why wouldn’t he simply self fund his campaign? Assuming he will certainly get something from the RNC, even if only half of the 1 billion allegedly needed, it seems Trump could if he chose kick in half a billion himself LESS what he gets in small donations from folks like us. Perhaps he would need 2-3 hundred million which I would think he could easily borrow.

That said, the campaign which spends the most is in no way guaranteed a win in any election.

It was a given that Trump wasn’t going to entirely self-fund for the general. He said so repeatedly.

The big GOP donors have already flushed about $300 million to defeat Trump, half of that by Low Energy Jeb, who the RNC was ready to anoint as the 2016 candidate before Trump came along.

I never expected Trump to pay for the general election.

Why should he? Trump is the key to the GOP retaining any power at all in DC.

And he already spent $55 million of his own money for the primaries.

When the history of 2016 is finally written, it will be evident that Trump was the best thing to ever have happened to the GOP.

They just don’t know it yet.

Go Trump!

I don’t see anything inconsistent with the RNC running the ground game and Trump financing campaign events. Why? The ground game is for everyone who’s running Republican and is part of their permanent voter data.

Sounds like a pat excuse for those who refuse to invest anything to any cause because there's others out there to actually ante up.......Trump said he would not be beholden to anyone and rightly expects the Party who he is the nominee of to come through with financial support.

Cruz lost and he did himself in - get over it. Trump has stood by his words/intentions far more than anyone else in the race and if we want to keep Hillary out, we should expect that it is incumbent on us to donate to trump too. i donated some $500-$600 to Cruz before it became obvious it was he that couldn't run the lemonade stand. Then I began donating to Trump because he is the best hope we have. The more private citizens donate, the less other money would be required - have you done your part or are you just envious of someone who made it big?

You are such a wise person, so perceptive, it is truly amazing.

However, Trump early on, when asked the question of funding, stated that he would fund the primaries and the RNC would do the general.

Trump has done more to expose worthless politicians than any other candidate in memory. Do you think Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham and John McCain are going to get re-elected on their next round if they continue to go against Trump’s stated agenda?

Trump never has said he’d self-fund the General Election portion of his campaign. He said he would self-fund the primary, but would have to accept donations for the General. Some people have short recall, or haven’t paid attention.

Trump has always said he’d take donations, including RNC, for the GENERAL election, just not for the primary. I’m not sure you quite understand that there are two layers of elections, the primaries and the general. Donations are defined at the FEC according to the race for which they were made, and there are limits for each.

Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched. He has been short of cash compared to the rest of the candidates all campaign long.

Pray America wakes

I listened to Trump address it the other day. He said his fundraising was for the RNC and for down-ticket races. He said that he intends to fund his part of the presidential campaign himself. That leads me to believe that he will not obstruct PACs from doing their thing, and he won’t obstruct the RNC from spending some of its money on the presidential campaign. He appeared to be saying that he would fund everything that was specifically his initiative, and that others would fund what they initiated.

That was my take on it, anyway.

hahaha...you really believe the crap MSM puts out? I can see why you are a Cruz supporter who received $34 million from just 4 ultra rich donors.

Actually, not silly at all. All Trump has to do is ASK his supporters and money will flow in.

Moreover, this is still more gamesmanship from Trump: “OK, I won the nomination, now pony up.”
