New Yorks Gabriel Sherman is reporting that in addition to being a ratings and financial failure, Megyn Kellys interview with Donald Trump has resulted in her losing most of the leverage she had in her upcoming contract negotiations.
Fox executives were willing to consider 9 million viewers a success, but Kellys supposedly mainstream appeal didnt translate to the parent network, and she only netted 4.8 million viewers. It was, as one Fox insider told Sherman, not good for her at all.
In fact, her boss Roger Ailes was apparently so tickled by the fact that he would not have to pay her a reported $25 million to remain at Fox News that he was heard snickering in a Thursday meeting when the special was mentioned.
In the days since, Kelly has been working to contain the fallout. She took aim at critics on her cable show Wednesday night by deploying an age-old Fox News tactic: claiming the backlash was a result of liberal media bias. But behind the scenes, she is said to be worried about the response. Shes very upset with the show reaction, and in hindsight with how it was produced, one Fox veteran told me

Extremely well said! And to this day, she doesn't get it. She was so proud of coming up with that high school question in the first debate. Totally amateur and not of professional reporter caliber. And she still hassles Trump by saying it was a fair question. Mindless, like a child having a tantrum refusing to understand why she is being chastised. She will never be a Barbara Walters.
Deborah Norville? She is a knitter now and hosts a craft show on PBS.
It was liberal media bias. [What the H does that have to do with a Fox/FoxNews program?]
It was production.
Maybe it was timeslot.
Maybe it was channel.
Maybe it was competition with other programming on other broadcast networks.
Sounds like she is blaming everyone except the real cause — herself.
4.8 million. That is considered high for a 24/7 news channel. For a broadcast channel like Fox Channel, it is low.
But there is a boycott in place. I don't have cable, and only get broadcast (over the air) TV. And this was on broadcast TV.
I'm pro-Trump, and no way was I going to watch it. I personally boycotted that show. I figured that either Kelly was going to try to trap Trump again, or she'd do some kind of groveling act to get back in his good graces. I wasn't interested either way.
I’m no Me-gyn fan, but.......Salon.
You're = you are
You're here.
You told me before that you forget. Just a little reminder because I love your writing and your enthusiasm.
I’m not buying this story. It makes no sense. Why would Fox be happy that they didn’t have a talent that could reach the viewership they wanted?
She is approaching eye bleach status - funny that.
Thank you again...rofl....I never have been able to figure that out...it just is something that goes right on by me...
Thanks FRiend...
That was tough to read while laughing so hard.
I’m a Trump supporter, and I did not watch this, nor would I watch any other “special” with Megyn Kelly and Trump. I know all I need to know about Trump, and I wouldn’t give her, or Fox, the time of day after their treatment of Trump. Trump’s a big boy and can handle it, but I don’t need to contribute to their viewership when I can see him plenty of other places. It’s pretty bad when CNN and MSNBC is more even handed with Trump.
Megyn for Trump's press secretary -- heads to explode! Thanks drewh.
Is it possible that MK was set up to fail, so to speak? Maybe as part of the upcoming salary negotiations?
By setting the expectations unusually high, i.e. 9 million viewers, and then when she doesn’t make that, she loses clout.
kind of like when stock analysts say stock XYZ should make $3 a share this year, and when they only make $2 a share, the stock gets downgraded.
But the $2 a share was twice the $1 a share they made last year.
Lets not forget that the story is from Salon. That bunch of thumb-suckers are fair well known for just making up crap.
I do hope it’s true about ol’ Megan, though. That arrogant scrunt got under my skin with her games during the debates.
You’re welcome. I’m glad I didn’t offend you. Some peole are angered over such things.
When she argued with the governor of texas about transgender in bathrooms and lockers with young children that did it for me
I think you’ve hit on the problem. I don’t have cable either, but have read on this forum that the Megyn Kelly special was aired on the Fox broadcast network I receive by antenna. I seldom watch that channel and saw no advertising about the special. I’d have tuned in to watch Trump.
Lol. I didn’t even know I missed it until after the fact. If this had been during the heat of the campaign I’m sure it would have drawn much larger, but with Trump a virtual lock now, interest has slowed until the convention.
