New York’s Gabriel Sherman is reporting that in addition to being a ratings and financial failure, Megyn Kelly’s interview with Donald Trump has resulted in her losing most of the leverage she had in her upcoming contract negotiations.
Fox executives were willing to consider 9 million viewers a success, but Kelly’s supposedly mainstream appeal didn’t translate to the parent network, and she only netted 4.8 million viewers. It was, as one Fox insider told Sherman, “not good for her at all.”
In fact, her boss Roger Ailes was apparently so tickled by the fact that he would not have to pay her a reported $25 million to remain at Fox News that he was heard “snickering” in a Thursday meeting when the special was mentioned.
In the days since, Kelly has been working to contain the fallout. She took aim at critics on her cable show Wednesday night by deploying an age-old Fox News tactic: claiming the backlash was a result of liberal media bias. But behind the scenes, she is said to be worried about the response. “She’s very upset with the show reaction, and in hindsight with how it was produced,” one Fox veteran told me…

Her smugness is her downfall.
As others have pointed out, this would seem to be more of a failure of Trump to draw ratings than Kelly.
And I say that, obviously, as a Trump supporter and as someone who doesn’t really give a sh*t about Kelly, one way or another.
I agree with Trump’s assessment of her, that she just isn’t a very good journalist.
Still, unless there is a boycott in place, why didn’t more people tune in to watch Trump?
If I had cable, I would have.

Didn’t she say recently, “I was a successful talk show host, and then I interviewed Trump ...”
Oh that poor little thing, she crawled on her hands and knees all the way down the side walks from FNC to Trump Towers, and being dressed so no one would notice her, she crawled up the door and the door man said: “Hello Ms. Kelly, I will let Mr. Trump know your here,” as blood was running down her legs, her nylons were ripped, her hands dirty, and all these people now knew who she was...
She was escorted up to Mr. Trump’s office and this is the way she looked when presented to Mr. Trump, blood, torn nylons, dirty hands, sweat from crawling, and in a bad position...
As she begged for him to do a show with her, he was as blunt as always, and he did...his fault that her show didn’t pan out? Nope, he did what he said he would do, she just isn’t the ‘important’ twit she thinks she is...

I for one was done with her that night and had been a loyal viewer. Now I grab the remote if I see her.
Ailes IS a businessman, and a very good one. Kelly is his creation, you might say a “product” he created, who has (or had) aspirations of leaving Fox and going solo, writing her own ticket. So it’s natural for him to snicker when it’s clear that her ambitions have been tamped-down a bit.

I have nothing against Megyn Kelley. What I am against is a media asking stupid questions that have nothing to do with the deficit, the debt, the border, entitlements or terrorism. Megyn stepped right into it when she opened the debate with that stupid question about calling Rosy O’Donnel fat (actually...she said he called women fat).
Look, we all get that Trump is boorish and ogles the women....if it bothers you, then it bothers you. Clinton was getting BJ’s in the Oval Office from a 21 year old intern and most people didn’t care either.
The point is, Trump has never claimed to be a saint. We want someone who gets stuff done. Reporters should start focusing questions on the important stuff, and leave the high school gossip stuff for after work at the bar. This is adult time...Megyn Kelly. You’re a reporter. Act like one.
I don’t know how she did it, but she did it good. I can’t stand her after hat first debate. Whatever she’s trying to do now just doesn’t matter.
