It does feel rather invasive when Im asking the question, Stein told LifeZette. She said the American Academy of Pediatrics requests that doctors ask the question, which is on intake forms for new patients and regular checkups. She does so in order to comply.
It has become more prevalent, she said. You feel uncomfortable whether you do it or not. It truly feels like youre getting into the parents business.
Stein says its a Catch 22: She wants her patients to be safe, but she doesnt want to invade their privacy. The information she collects is not shared outside of her practice. If she has to ask about guns, she would rather be able to distribute information on gun safety for kids instead of just being forced to check off a box.

So-called “trans-genderism” and homosexual practice are also mental illnesses.
If she has to ask about guns, she would rather be able to distribute information on gun safety for kids....Is there some part of medical school that covers evaluating the vaildity of gun safety information? If not, what is the doctor's expertise that provides a basis for distributing such information?
1. Did you receive medical training pertaining to health evaluations or diagnosis on the basis gun ownership? (they'll say 'no.')
2. Does your licensing board know that you're performing diagnostics for which you have not been trained?
That should shut them up pretty quick.
It should be, "Is the lock working properly on the big gun case that you have for your $10,000,000 collection.?"
If this were truly about “gun safety”, each new patient would get a trifold glossy pamphlet explaining safe storage for guns and ammo along with other safety information. Every patient would get one, whether the MD thought they were gun owners or not. The MD then could ask, any questions?
But they are asking about guns and putting it in a database. The only reason you collect data is to use it.
In some cases they ask the child these questions if the parents do not cooperate, so it’s the data collection that is important to them, not the “safety”.
this is what the communists do.
GUILT is part and parcel of REEDUCATION CAMPS
GUILT of a status
GUILT of exercising a right
GUILT=CONVICTION
CONVICTION = CRIME
We should turn this into “are you now or have you ever been a member of the Democrat Party...”
Just answer “NO” to that question. None of their business.
When my son was little we had the “questions not to answer if teachers, doctors or anyone else ask them” discussion.
The personal safety of patients isn't the business of doctors. Only medical issues are. Advising you to exercise and eat a healthful diet is appropriate. Advising you against things like not wearing your seat belt, living in high-crime areas, or running with the bulls in Spain is NOT appropriate. Like gun ownership, anything not medically-related is none of their damn business.
Do you despise the Founding Fathers? One uncomfortable question deserves another. People who hate the Bill of Rights hate freedom and that’s a mental illness. You see it in communists, muslims, etc., and I’ll be damned if I’m going to put up with it in my doctor.
"Middle-aged older white men"? I used to be in that group. Fortunately I am now much safer now. I got older.
The information she collects is not shared outside of her practice.
B.S.
“This one is actually pretty easy to shut down, or so I have heard.”
One of my former doctors said if you answered yes he would inform you about lead poisoning.
“You vill haf medical insurance!”
“You vill schedule regular doctor appointments!”
“You vill answer all questions completely and honestly!”
“If you do not, vee vill make you comply, citizen!”
‘She wants her patients to be safe, but...’
OK, so what about collecting this info and/or knowing it would safeguard the patient? None that I could determine. To me it seems like an ‘in’ for nosey govt types to someday kick your door down under the guise of public safety.
Ive never been asked this question but know Id tell the doc we’re done with each other and leave. Its none of his business. It also has no bearing on why Im there to see him.
...If she has to ask about guns, she would rather be able to distribute information on gun safety for kids...
A NRA Eddie Eagle video for kids about gun safety would be a good start. It has this advice for kids who come across guns.
“Stop. Don’t touch it. Leave the areaediately. Tell an adult.”
Following that advice to the letter will prevent “accidents.”
Disarming the public is not explicitly stated among the communist goals for the USA, but one of the means is spelled out here.
- Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand (or treat).
- Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
