Tom Brokaw to Ole Miss Grads: More Guns Mean More Homegrown Terror

During a May 14 commencement address to Old Miss graduates, retired news anchor and journalist Tom Brokaw said, “more guns … will mean more homegrown acts of terror.”

Tom Brokaw lamented the continuing expansion of gun ownership and the success of gun rights organizations that support that expansion.

According to The Commercial Appeal, Brokaw referenced the homicide rate in Democrat-run Memphis, Tennessee, then said:

I’m appalled by the determination of organizations and individuals to arm more people without any appreciation of the consequence of evermore lethal weapons in our midst. More guns and more firearm tolerance will mean more homegrown acts of terror.

He remained on the topic of guns, telling the graduating class of the University of Mississippi, “Yes, we have a constitutional right to own guns … but with that right comes a personal obligation to be on guard against the promiscuous use of guns (and) not to pretend that no limits means no trouble.”

I went to a small state college, and this woman spoke at my graduation. I must say, this is an advantage of going to a small state college. They won't get a turd like Brokaw or Michelle Obama, or Clinton to speak there. A little too far below their "station"...

But this woman, was interesting, down to earth, and...historic!

Ya know, he bought that ranch knowing there was an adjacent (bow, iirc) hunting ranch next to it, and then wanted to shut the hunting facility in case an errant arrow ended up on his property.

Here's the thing I don't get about Tom Brokaw. He's the one who wrote The Greatest Generation, which is probably more responsible than any other single source for engendering in the modern public the respect for the World War II generation that they so richly deserve. Surely, the author of that book must be aware that those great men used guns (and bombs, torpedoes, etc.) to defeat our country's enemies. Even if Brokaw himself doesn't like guns, can't he at least read his own book and realize how indispensable they were (and still are) to preserving our freedom?
