Trump hints that Fallin and Brewer on VP short list
The Hill ^ | May 11, 2016 | Harper Neidig

Posted on 05/12/2016 5:56:35 AM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

Donald Trump said on Wednesday that former Ariz. Gov. Jan Brewer and Okla. Gov. Mary Fallin are both on his shortlist for running mate.

“Well also Jan. Jan Brewer has been fantastic,” he said. “She has been so fantastic. You know I won so big, her territory, we won so big. And she is a fabulous woman. And I agree with you, the governor of Oklahoma -- fabulous person.”

When asked whether Chris Christie is still in the running as a possible vice president pick, Trump declined to give a straight answer, opting to praise the New Jersey governor.

“I don’t want to say 'in there,' but he’s helping me and he was an early endorsement and a very enthusiastic one and he’s a friend of mine and a very good guy and a talented guy and he’s helping us a lot," Trump said.

He said there were between five and seven people under consideration to be his VP and that he will make the announcement at the convention this summer.

Jan Brewer is 72. I think that is a bit old.

Hey! You ageist! I represent that remark! (I'm 72 as well)

In short, a veep has virtually no chance of becoming president.

Unless he pulls an LBJ...

NO TO JAN BREWER! She happily expanded Medicaid in Arizona to get Obama Money.....she is not Conservative. He needs to pick a Conservative, if he wants the Conservative vote!

I agree about Brewer. She did expand Medicaid.

Sessions would be a good pick if Trump wants to bring skeptical conservatives aboard.

NINE of our VPs have moved up to President due to death or resignation of the President. 14 VPs in total have later become President, so the VP position certainly has served as a grooming position for future presidents.

We know that Trump is a master showman. He'll milk the VP selection drama for everything it's worth--the ultimate "celebrity apprentice" contest. By the time July rolls around the Republican convention will define must-see-TV.

It's all part of the strategy to make Hillary and the democrats look dull, old, and decidedly "uncool" while Trump is the exciting new Future of America.

Count on it. This is all part of a real strategy, the like of which Hillary and company will be completely unable to deal with.

Agree with all your points though I think in the end Hillary will pick Julian Castro, though he claims he isn’t interested. The Dems need to keep their newest and potentially largest voting bloc happy. Personally, I think all the kowtkwing the Dems do to Blacks and Hispanics have pissed off their old traditional White working class voters. Would not shock me to see Trump get 35% or more of White working class Democrats. I think they’re fed up with their party supporting the likes of BLM and La Raza.

Seems to me that Gingrich is almost openly lobbying for the spot.

I say Jeff Sessions would be the overall best pick—Cruz supporters like and respect him, I believe. Former fed. judge, dems filibustered his nomination to court of appeals. Solid on immigration, great of foreign policy. Most importantly—he is loyal to Trump. Remember, he was the first legislator of any note to get on board, very early in the campaign season.

Trump should pick Tom Cotton-Sen-R (AR). Traditional conservative and US Army combat vet.

I thought one of his criteria was someone with an extensive background in congress, to work to get bills through.

Political reality is what it is, but the real question is whether Brewer and Fallin are totally qualified for the job. I don’t know Fallin, but I’ve been impressed with Brewer.

Is Brewer more qualified than Kasich? Most importantly in this regard: She is far more likely to advance Trump’s basic cause of the border and stopping illegals than Kasich ever would be.

Haven’t we figured out that pandering to minorities and women doesn’t draw votes? It just gives us a limited pool of candidates of often meager accomplishments compared to others, candidates whose main qualification started with their genitals or their skin color

Hell in Maryland the democrats threw oreo cookies at our black LtGov Michael Steele when he was campaigning.

I am a pretty well read follower of politics and I NEVER HEARD OF MARY FALLIN. If Trump aged 70 had a stroke or a heart attack, she’d be the president the United States

Show me where she has any qualification to deal with a Congress where BOTH HOUSES will be hostile to Trump. And maneuvering to preserve their fiefdoms behind his back or in his face.

Can she run a national economic recovery. Did she ever even have to make a payroll in private business? She’s in OK, which is why I never heard of her I guess.. What does she know about the other 56 states?

What are her policies on dealing with Iran becoming a nuclear power? On dealing with Russia in Syria? About our ongoing strategy of challenging Russia and China in their littoral areas?

What is the toughest walk “Mary Fallin” ever had to walk? in business politics or personal life? Is she another Sarah Palin?

You realize that 99% of Americans in our biggest states that Trump has to win, never heard of her? Oh but she’s a WOMAN... Like that’s going to inspire the voters?

No affirmative action VP, please. And “Jan Brewer” age 72- sorry, no one age 65 or older=- we already have the senior citizen vote

BINGO.
Trump’s not going to say anything definitive. It’s another classic Trump head fake.

He’s a master at playing the dumb cuck media and pundits for the fools that they are.

They will run with this for the next week and he’ll lead all the news cycles again.
When he does announce his VP, the MSM and pundits will be shocked yet again by Trump.

and exacty how will she do that, when it is CONGRESS that has to act. Is she going to turn into a combo schmoozer and arm twister? I don't see it Also she's 72. Age starts to matter when Trump himself is 70 Put the two of them on stage together and they look like a MetLife commercial

Gov.Fallin served two terms in the U.S.Congress representing OK as a Representative, then served as Lt.Governor, and is presently Governor of Oklahoma.

She understands how government works. Best of all, if she completes eight years as Trumps VP, he will have taught her how to get things done his way.

If she had to assume the presidency, she would influence Congress the same way any president does, but she would oppose open borders and increased illegal immigration. If Kasich becomes president, he’ll probably fire the border patrol and row boats of immigrants across the Rio Grande himself.
