Donald Trump launched his presidential campaign promising to build a border wall to stop illegal immigrants and Hispanic rights advocates say Republicans will now reap the pain of having him as their partys nominee.
Americas Voice, a leading immigration advocacy group, said Republicans are facing a moment of truth. Other organizations predicted that Hispanic voters will be eager to punish Mr. Trump for his rhetoric and the party as a whole for nominating him.
The Republican Party is about to run into a force more powerful than their hatred the power of the love of families and communities standing together, said Kica Matos, director of immigrant rights at the Center for Community Change.
On the other side are Hispanic Republican leaders who fear exactly what has come to pass. They say Mr. Trump has a lot of work to do even to get Hispanics in his own party to back him up.
I cannot support him, I cannot campaign for him, I cannot vote for him, Alfonso Aguilar, executive director of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, told The Washington Times.
Having said that, I am taking a pause and just seeing how this evolves, and considering all the things that the country is facing, all the things that are at stake in this election I am willing to see if Mr. Trump evolves on a number of issues. I hope that he revises his views on immigration and if that is the case I would be willing to consider reconsidering my position, he said.
Hispanics are one of the fastest-growing demographics in the American electorate, and Republican nominees have lost a share of that vote in the past two presidential elections, from about 40 percent in 2004 to 31 percent in 2008 and 27 percent in 2012.

Why do “Hispanics” need to be here? Why is Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, the Guyanas, Surinam, Bolivia, Uraguay, Paraguay not good enough? I bet if the evil English and French, and Dutch, and Irish, and Scottish had colonized Ecuador or Guatemala, those would be popular places to immigrate to.
That was just the way us NYC guineas say it.
I'm eager to punish Hispanics for advocating illegal immigration. It is racist and betrays them as not American in any way that matters.
The illegals have a fairly active advocacy group on Free Republic.
You see them actively pushing gang of eight point man, La Raza Marco Rubio.
The MSM can’t fathom an ethnic group not voting monolithically.
Let them complain from Mexico, they have no business being here.
In John Kerry’s words(he who served in Viet Nam): BRING IT ON!
Exactly! I’ve said many times Rubio is an amnesty pimp and still do.
Wanna bet?
Trump should announce that illegals have eight months to leave, if not, expect to be deported. If leave now, allowed back, following due process, if not, commit to keeping them out permanently. Maybe give warning to employers, hire Americans or face prosecution in 2017.
Didn’t Trump win the Hispanic vote on Nevada by a big margin in the primary....?
He's not 'evolving' Mr. Aquilar, deal with it.
Like Trump?
“Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said its possible he could ask his former rival for the nomination, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), to be his running mate.”
No. He won more Hispanics voting in the R primary which is a small minority of Hispanics in Nevada.
They don’t mind proudly letting it be known how their first loyalty is to Mexico. They don’t even try to hide that they want the interests of Mexico placed above that of the United States, which is obviously only their country on paper.
Trump needs to stop talking about a wall and start talking about getting the Mexican people freed from the oppressive misery of socialism they have been rotting in since the revolution of 1917.
