In an interview on CNN's "New Day," host John Berman asked Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson whether Ryan was fit to retain the speakership if he can't get behind Trump as the GOP standard-bearer.
"No, because this is about the party," Pierson replied. "The last two presidential cycles we were told John McCain was a conservative..."
I wish more people would read them too. The obtuseness of so many of the anti-Trumpers astounds me. Their minds are clamped shut. It’s as though once they form a surface-level opinion about something, they are forever stuck there, no matter what new information comes to light.
I dated a woman like that once. Thankfully, it didn’t last long...what a nightmare! lol
The Republican primary is effectively over and Trump is the nominee.
Right now anything that is not directly supportive of Trump, is helping Hillary into the White House.
“Maybe Trump isnt a right wing conservative...”
That’s true, but I’m beginning to wonder what the definition of ‘doctrinaire conservative’ is, anyway.
I’ve examined all of Trump’s signature policy positions, and can’t find anyplace where they significantly deviate from what I think of as a conservative point of view.
Yet, the ‘He’s not a real conservative’ meme, continues to stick. I suppose it lingers because of some of his past positions and alliances. My feeling on it, is that he’ll have to produce a sufficient number of conservative accomplishments to overcome that perception.
Yes, I fear you are correct.
Trump’s team take no prisoners.
“Trump-Pierson 2016!!!”
Oh, wouldn’t THAT drive them up the wall! Two truth tellers on the same ticket? The left might need a safe space on every street corner.
“We were told Mitt Romney was a conservative and he was pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, pro-adoption, gave us Obamacare.”
Pro adoption? What’s wrong with adoption? Or is that a typo?
I’ve been a conservative all my life and I’ve never known any of my fellow conservatives to have any objection to adoption.
Maybe she meant adoption by same sex partners?
Just curious why adoption is on the no no list.
“The #neverTrump crowd are Bush globalists, not real conservatives. Trump was the only real Reagan conservative that ran and the elites know it...”
Hard as it may be for some folks to process, that’s the God’s honest truth.
Trump won the people’s confidence and votes because he’s not posturing as a leader. He IS one, as proven by his decades of success as a business executive. He’s the very embodiment of the word, ‘boss’, which is what this country, our government, and the Republican party need right now.
It also helps that he’s got his eyes firmly fixed on the correct targets, i.e., those issues which are the greatest mortal threats to our continued existence as a nation.
The people sensed all this about Trump from the very beginning. It’s why he could get away with saying things that would destroy a mere politician.
Trump is a throwback to the kind of people who made America great to begin with. The sort of tough minded, no nonsense, common sense courage, that was once in abundance here. Most Americans (and I suspect, any people) naturally follow such figures, and instinctively trust them to get the big things right.
Yet some among us have never seen a real leader in their lives, and certainly not in politics. They don’t quite know what to make of it. The next four years will be an eye opening experience for them.
Don’t forget to vote in these States; Trump needs to get over the 1237 mark:

GO.TRUMP.GO!!! ALL THE WAY TO THE OVAL OFFICE!!!
Isn’t there a primary coming up for Ryan soon?
I think you gotta go. Meow.
He has said as much. He has said, this [I, Trump] is what we need right now.
Trump is ultra-cognizant that a bold businessman is a departure from the sick norm of incrementalism.
His very recent assaults on the paradigm suggest two things: (1) VP is Krispy Kreme after all, after MailmanJr ran his chances into the ditch before Indiana; and (2) Krispy gets the nod after Trump serves one term.
I could live with that.
The people that have their hooks (money) in Ryan, don’t have the same with Trump! Period!
Repeat x 10 ^ 6.
Nuff said...!!!
How the heck can anyone who calls themselves a conservative or doesn’t like Obama’s policies can actually like Paul Ryan is shocking. Paul Ryan is for Amnesty. Paul Ryan pushed for a flood of foreign guest workers. In fact a quadrupling in highly skilled foreign workers while Americans lose those jobs. http://www.wnd.com/2015/11/house-gop-seeks-flood-of-foreign-guest-workers/ Paul Ryan champions crony trade agreements, expansion of visa programs, massive spending bills, and a host of other bad policies that take us in exactly the wrong direction. Paul Ryan is Boehner 2.0. The omnibus bill is a 1.1 trillion dollar disaster thanks to Paul Ryan. Planned Parenthood despite the fact that it takes the lives of 330,000 unborn babies every year, and has now been exposed selling aborted baby parts is fully funded in the Ryan budget. http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/congress/item/22160-paul-ryan-led-house-spending-capitulation-to-democrats-and-rising-debt-continue

Paul Ryan would be the most liberal, pro-union, Republican Speaker in history,” says Kay Daly. “He is one of only ten remaining House Republicans who voted for Teddy Kennedys bill to force Christian employers to hire LGBT employees. Even John Boehner never did that!
LOL!
Schwing AND Schlong!
Im on the fence right now. I dont fully trust Donald Trump but I dont want Hillary or comrade stalin I mean Bernie in the white house.

Well, it’s a start....
I think Trump’s mindset is anti left rather than pro conservative.
He sees the government intruding on the private sector - over taxing, over regulating - killing industries, killing jobs. He sees the government failing to make people’s lives better - failing in health care, failing at education, failing in trade, failing at borders and security, failing in infrastructure.
As conservatives, we see all those failures as being the natural consequences of not being conservative, i.e. not limitting government as the Founding Fathers intended.
But I would argue that the Founders’ intentions were essentially pragmatic: they understood that individual freedom and enlightened self interest are the drivers of peace and prosperity, not collectivism and central control and planning. Collectivism leads to one size fits all non solutions and breeds corruption. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
We principled conservatives speak, think and act from these conservative founding principles, which are built into our Constitution, but essentially they are rooted in the pragmatism and good sense of the Founding Fathers.
Donald Trump does not speak, think and act from conservative principles, so he does not use conservative jargon, nor quote the Constitution.
Yet, I think he is extremely pragmatic, extremely insightful, and (I believe) altruistic about the USA.
I think his pragmatism combined with his altruism has ultimately led him to the conclusion that the government has accumulated far too much power and must be scaled way, way back. In other words, he’ll do exactly what a conservative would do, but not because the Founding Fathers said so, or because it’s in the Constitution - he’ll do it because it makes sense, it’s pragmatic, it works.
We conservatives would be comforted to hear Trump talk like Ronald Reagan, defending and being led by the Constitution and the founding principles. I don’t think that’s who Trump is, and if he talked that way, I’m not sure he’d get very far politically.
I would like to give him a crack at fixing what’s wrong, using his pragmatic business approach. I love the Conservative Movement, but it hasn’t made a dent in the ascendency of Leftism - maybe Trump’s approach will succeed where the Conservative Movenent has failed.
I think you have it in a nutshell!
Excellent post.
I just completed Trump’s latest book (Crippled America).
He has many flaws but I’m convinced he’s an American patriot.
