Trump: Something New under the Political Sun
NATIONAL REVIEW ^ | May 3,2016 | by VICTOR DAVIS HANSON

Posted on 05/03/2016 3:31:54 PM PDT by Hojczyk

To get a clearer idea of the feelings of Trump supporters, read the comments section following any mainstream news story that deals with race, class, and gender in politically correct fashion. A stream-of-consciousness litany of his supporters’ peeves, for good or ill, would run like this: The wrong people are in the news.

Instead of generals, and small-business owners, and muscular workers, we instead see smarmy smart-asses, the pajama boys and mattress girls of the world of TV, who roll their eyes, wink about a joke only the anointed get, and smirk that what they say could have three different meanings — the Jon Stewarts, David Lettermans, and Stephen Colberts of Smug, Inc.

They do not hate political correctness so much as one-sided political correctness, which gives a pass to some to say things that would get others fired or ruined. They don’t want to be lectured that their own plight is part of a larger, healthy creative destruction or a leaner, meaner competitiveness or an overdue restructuring — by those who are never destroyed, rendered noncompetitive, or restructured. And they don’t like to be talked down to by the experts who ran up $10 trillion in debt, ruined the health-care system, dismantled the military,

and screwed up the Secret Service, the IRS, NASA, and the VA. Trump is their megaphone, not their solution. The Trump supporters have seen plenty of politicians with important agendas, but few with the zeal to push them through; at this late date, they would apparently prefer zeal without agendas to agendas without zeal

An interesting article. VDH must be feeling real alone over at National-RINO Review these days.

I’ve liked VDH in the past, I forget if I stopped liking him over the NRO trying to undermine Trump.

He gets it. He is one the few people who understands what is actually going on.

One of the better columns I’ve seen from VDH for a while. However, I don’t understand what he meant when he said:

“A Trump orgasm is to have someone in a suit and makeup, or with a title before his name, pontificate that Trump should be and is through — a Trump pleasure surpassed only by a shouting young anti-Trump disrupter shown on the news with a placard, “Make America Mexico Again.”

Either I’m stupid or that’s a least a bit weird.

Well it looks like VDH drew the short straw to walk back the NR position. He actually did a nice job. Interesting timing, as the Indiana results are rolling in. Kristol did the same thing, with less eloquence, earlier today.

The best line, referring to onr Trump supporter: “I don’t care whether Trump wins or not, I just want him to f— things up as long as he can.”

I do care if he wins, and hope he f—— things up as long as he is in office. And I like thew way he wears his ties - long!

As a conservative Cruz guy, I don’t mind Trump.

Trump is a loose canon on deck. You don’t know what he will destroy next, your favorite chunk of government or the other guy’s.

But the “deck” is Washington D.C. Exactly how much of that do we want left standing?

I say, “Send in the wrecker!”

I agree with VDH quite a bit when I read his articles.

We do need lower taxes, smaller government, more free commerce, and more freedom and responsibility.

The problem with the NRO, the MSM, and the powerful of both political parties is that in fighting so hard for new voters they ignored the base voters in the middle class. The Dems and Pubs have promised much but delivered less than nothing. The middle class is pissed and, one way or the other, they are going to get it. Their will will be wrought now or later, easy or hard, peaceful or bloody.

It’s still a little snarky. Trump is not respected by the deep thinkers on the establishment right. They really have the nerve to suggest that people only support Trump as a great big protest vote. I for one was a Cruz supporter from the beginning. As Cruz has gravitated to the more religious constituencies I have had to rethink my position. Trump pushed his buttons and he lost his composure.
My wife has been a Trump supporter since he announced. She likes that he speaks from his heart and not a teleprompter. I think she is pretty typical as a woman voter. We expect Trump to win and we are looking forward to what comes afterwards. I think he has the best interests of outlet country at heart, regardless of how he comes down on social issues.

I’m not voting for Trump because of spite, I’m voting for a better future.

LOL! You sound like one of those folks Hanson writes about at the end of his article. (I’m one too, though I’ve been for Trump since day one.)

Read it but don’t agree. It sums up what a buffoon the current president is, his cohorts and in the destruction he has wrought, but it ends on a nihilistic note. What is so profound?

Trump is for a brief season our long-haired Samson, and the two pillars of the temple he is yanking down are the Republicans to his right and the Democrats to his left — and it will all land on top of us, the Philistines beneath. “And he bent with all his might so that the house fell on the lords and all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he killed in his life.” Judges 16.30.

Has Victor been reading my posts?

As for Donald Trump, I view him as a type of Samson, whom YHWH raised up to bring down the Temple of Dagon on the Philistines. Read Judges 13-16 and then look at the characteristics Donald Trump shares with Samson: Doesn’t drink, ever; has really wild hair; is really harsh if you treat him badly or unfairly; ran around with a lot of foreign women.

Now look at Donald Trump’s slogan: “Make America Great Again”. Alexis de Tocqueville said: “America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” Donald Trump knows that in a country overrun with Philistines one can not campaign on “Make America Good Again”. However, if you look at what he says he will do, how offended he is by people lying about him, how offended he is with dirty tricks, how he hates the corruption in American government, etc. you know that he is trying to do is make America good again. So Donald Trump is bringing people out of the shadows, so to speak, and giving them hope that things can be better. This puts them out in the world where the Holy Spirit can bring believers into contact with those who are to be saved. So that is the spiritual aspect of the Trump campaign.

On the Bible Prophecy side, how is YHWH going to convince the Iranians that 2017 would be about the last time they, with their allies, can wipe out the United States and attack Israel to wipe it off the map?

How about we elect Donald Trump and he starts to make the American Military so strong that no one will want to mess with us? How about if he starts to root out the Muslim Brotherhood infiltration of the Government? In fact, the threat of having Donald Trump in the Whitehouse may well trigger the attack that is described in Ezekiel 38:10-13, which YHWH does not stop, so that the attack in Ezekiel 38:14-23, which YHWH will stop can take place. Then the End will come.

When the world gets to these critical points, there isn’t anything one can do to change the course set by YHWH for the world. It is much easier if you focus on that narrow way YHWH has for you to do as your part in His magnificent Word.

I read the entire article and just don’t get the people here who praise this banal piece. VDH is the same sort of confused, numb-nutted, jerkified, over-educated, intellectualoid anti-Trmp idjit as every other writer at NRO. And damn near every other media outlet of the left and right to boot! Can’t any of you people who praise this piece read the snark, sarcasm, and total disdain this prig has for you, the average, everyday, working stiff chump that hates everything about the elitist snobs who have had this country by the short hairs for generations and who have screwed and your children out of any sort of positive future? It doesn’t seem so!

Nonsense.

Trump’s invincibility can be traced back one salient point; he accomplishes what he sets out to do, and doesn’t come with the inherent caveat that arcane rules and procedures, ratified by no one but those observing them, will stop him.

That doesn’t mean he’ll become a Mussolini. It means he’s not afraid to give out your phone number if you view the consent of the governed with contempt.
