As front-runner Donald Trump continues his march toward the Republican nomination for president, he is more popular than ever among GOP voters, according to a new Morning Consult survey.
Fifty-six percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents polled from April 29 through May 2 said they would vote for Trump if the election were held today. Thats an 8-point increase from our previous poll, taken last week.
And while Trump is up 8 points, the news gets worse for his main competitor, Sen. Ted Cruz. Only 20 percent of voters are still backing the Texas Republican for the nomination, which is down 7 points from last week. Cruzs favorability among Republican voters was down 4 points (54 percent to 50 percent) and down 2 points among independents (27 percent to 25 percent). And in a week in which he announced former GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina as his would-be running mate on a Republican ticket, his favorability among Republican women also fell 7 points, from 54 percent to 47 percent.
The third candidate in the GOP race, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, was the first choice for 13 percent of respondents, up 1 point from our previous poll.

Donald Trump | 56% | 48% | 49% |

John Kasich | 13% | 12% | 14% |
Someone Else | 4% | 8% | 7% |
Don't Know/No Opinion | 7% | 5% | 6% |
I doubt they polled him and placed him in the republican column!
El Rushbo will be all over this! /sarc
Those women. Somehow they equal the number of male republicans, Trump has 56 percent support, and none of them are female.
How does he do it?! He’s even beating mathematics!
:>)
Poor Rush has sold his credibility for a bowl of pottage.
I don’t know. Just look at how Cruz’s poll numbers went up after choosing Fiorina as Vice-President.
Oh wait................. Hahahaha.
No, I don’t think that. I think it is the false prophet syndrome. I use the term prophet in it’s politically pejorative sense.
The character of his campaign changed just before Iowa, and he’s continuously slumped ever since. Had he just kept going on as he had been (keeping his head down and mouth shut) he would be faring much better.
Trump has played the GOPe and his nomination opponents like a fiddle. I hope he beats Hillary like a drum until he wins in a landslide.
The Rusha Limbaugh Show should be interesting today. Like it hasn't been in the past several weeks. More and more on the thread are anti-Rusha.
Before, you could hardly get anyone to say something bad about Rusha. But, now, it's about 20-1 against Rusha.
Call me a Trumpist, Rusha and I'll call you Rusha, Rusha!
I read someplace that Fiorina was UNKNOWN by 36% of people polled.
There’s a good choice a critical tipping point in your campaign.
You can run million dollar ads saying “Meet Carly”.
Fixed.
That poll is most likely a derivative poll.
The people betting are placing their bets based primarily on poll results and then adding in their own intuition and bias.
Notice how the phony Media/GOPe/Cruz narratives keep falling by the wayside, one by one?
How's Ted Cruz feeling about that "head to head" battle with Donald Trump now?
Vote Trump
the kid was right, Cruz does suck!
Wow. Go Trump!
I would be awesome if lying Ted Cruz drops out this week
Raising the ceiling is a natural for Trump, after all he is into construction! :)
Our entire political system cratered some time ago. REALity simply hasn’t hit everyone yet.
May God forgive us and heal us and our land.
