An international team of scientists said Monday they had discovered a trio of Earth-like planets that are the best bet so far for finding life outside our solar system.
The three orbit an ultracool dwarf star a mere 39 light years away, and are likely comparable in size and temperature to Earth and Venus, they reported in a study, published in Nature.

“...probability of even ten of these variable existing all within the extremely narrow range necessary for life as we know it ...”
Few can grasp of the point your making here. I have the idea, but fully fathom the magnitude of improbability. Of course “as we know it” is quite the caveat too.
Being tidally locked around a flaring star is not a bad thing - you can go to the dark side when it flares.
Granted. But it's the only thing we have to go on. To start speculating on some other type of life form is to leave the realm of science and enter the realm of science fiction. (which does make for a good bar scene in Star Wars though)
Again they mislead. There are hundreds of conditions necessary for life as we know it and they use 3 or 4 to make it seem “earth-like.”
Bzzzt! Incorrect cultural reference, with an automatic three point deduction.
Aww, the light bulb goes on...

Sorry, but it had already reminded me of Wallace Shawn.
I couldn’t help it. I think the black helicopters got me........
I’m outta here, just the same!
Would one of them be called, Earth"?
It’s what I do. I drink, and I support life.
Now we just have to figure out how to go light speed or better, so we can actually get there and back in a human lifetime.
That’s a handful more of planets that MUST be saved from climate change !
Only carbon credit offsets will work ! We must act now, and anyone who denies this should be imprisoned ! *

“Given our current best propulsion system, we will never get there.”
Not in your lifetime, maybe, but I plan to live forever so I can give it a go. . . .
Area 51 is the airspace over Groom Lake.
Exactly. The best that scientists can do is hype things up when they find a planet that meets 2 or 3 of the thousands of conditions that allow for life on planet earth.
At this point, it seems a statistical impossibility that they’ll ever find a real habitable planet. That conflicts with scientists’ fantasies though, like the cosmological principle, and it seems they prefer their fantasies.
If anything Bob Lazar had to say was true, he would have been dead before any of us ever heard about it...
