Donald Trumps damage to the Republican Party, although already extensive, has barely begun. Republican quislings will multiply, slinking into support of the most anti-conservative presidential aspirant in their partys history. These collaborationists will render themselves ineligible to participate in the partys reconstruction.
Ted Cruzs announcement of his preferred running mate has enhanced the nomination process by giving voters pertinent information. They already know the only important thing about Trumps choice: His running mate will be unqualified for high office because he or she will think Trump is qualified.
Hillary Clintons optimal running mate might be Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio, a pro-labor populist whose selection would be balm for the bruised feelings of Bernie Sanderss legions. Running mates rarely matter as electoral factors: In 2000, Al Gore got 43.2 percent of the North Carolina vote. In 2004, John Kerry, trying to improve upon Gores total there, ran with North Carolina Sen. John Edwards but received 43.6 percent. If, however, Brown were to help deliver Ohio for Clinton, the Republican path to 270 electoral votes would be narrower than a needles eye. [SNIP]
Trump would be the most unpopular nominee ever, unable to even come close to Mitt Romneys insufficient support among women, minorities and young people. In losing disastrously, Trump probably would create down-ballot carnage sufficient to end even Republican control of the House. Ticket splitting is becoming rare in polarized America: In 2012, only 5.7 percent of voters supported a presidential candidate and a congressional candidate of opposite parties.

“In losing disastrously, Trump probably would create down-ballot carnage sufficient to end even Republican control of the House.”
Note how Mr. Will doesn’t talk about what happens down-ballot (or at the top, for that matter) should we Trump supporters PERCEIVE that the nomination was stolen from Trump.
In the end, it will be our PERCEPTIONS that will determine the outcome of this election for the GOPe. If they (the GOPe) really do want to steal it from Trump, they had better do so in a way that is PERCEIVED by both Trump and his supporters as fair (which I don’t see possible at this point), or there will be HELL TO PAY for Mr. Will’s down-ballot buddies - in other words, WE SIT IT OUT (or go elsewhere), and Mr. Will’s precious buddies in DC will be mailing out resumes.
If I were an elected official in DC (or a serious candidate), I would be VERY CONCERNED with what happens in Cleveland, as we Trump supporters are not about to let them get away with, once again, denying us our choice. The Republican Party will be destroyed completely if we PERCEIVE that the nomination was stolen from Trump - regardless of the technicalities of the rules.
There’s no fool like an old Uniparty fool.
>>>what if clinton picks sanders?<<<
been wondering that myself.....
So let’s see. Seventeen people go through the grueling process of running for their party’s nomination. They put themselves out there and take criticism. Across the country, voters come out in record numbers and finally decide on a nominee.
Along comes a pompous elitist who decides to give a big F.U. to all those many millions of people who waited in lines, sometimes for hours, who got spit on by protesters, who got slugged, who endured screaming and obscenities, who got pepper sprayed and who were filled with hope that their country has a chance to be their country again.
No, George Will, we give you a big F.U. You get one vote. You are not going to take away that which so many millions of people want. Who the hell do you think you are?
George Will is a Hillary supporter and has been all along.
There’s speculation that National Review is going to endorse Hillary when Trump wins the nomination.
Trump is an oak tree, you're a wilting pansy.

“But cant you people be just plain nicer people? Cant you thank George Will for his opinion and say you think its time to bring new people into leadership? Do you have to be so vulgar? Calling Will a moron? After 50 years of work? What is with you people?”
Why should anyone be nice to George Will when he acts like an asshole? Because he didn’t ALWAYS act like an asshole? Not good enough.
When he comes out and says the will of the voters doesn’t matter and that we need to abandon the only guy in our party who CAN win over Hillary, he’s placing himself squarely on the side of our enemies - the RATS, and every vile, destructive belief that they have. If the enemy of our enemy is our friend, then surely the friend of our enemies should be our enemy as well.
This would not surprise me.
Fair enough and apologies. I don’t follow your posts and I too am no fan of Kristol
George Will, another elitist snob who thought he was smarter than God, that God was for idiots, so he proudly became an atheist. God is only for weak minds, not towering intellects like Will.
interesting..... after reading all i could stand... i have come to the conclusion this person is more than likely the “latino secretary” he espouses to hire in his office. Hence the romance with Rubio..
I’m thinking the quote below is how beernoser would describe herself:
“a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach abetter conclusion [as a judge] than a white male”
Trump's not damaging the Republican Party - he's damaging puffed up elites like George Will and his useless friends.
DC elites in their self-exalted positions are going to be replaced by people who understand ideas without actions are insane.
What a fussy, silly man.
Ash Heap of History meet George Will...
Spot on post, doug!
Trump needs to change his slogan to “Let’s Make Washington D.C. Great Again.” Throw out all of the career politicians and deliver Washington back into the hands of the American people. If there is one thing I’ve learned from this election fiasco is that it’s the politicians in Washington D.C. against the American people. I know that it’s been that way a long time but sometimes I’m just a little “slow”.
did you notice also that somewhere in all those weeds (not going back trough to find it) the wise latino stated he/she was a “Huckeby” supporter/voter? he/she spelled that way more than once.... how bizarre to say you are a Huckabee supporter and not know how to spell his name... ?
