Dear Mainstream Media, Don’t You Dare Whitewash Anti-Trump Violence
National Review ^ | 4/29/2016 | David French

Posted on 04/29/2016 2:34:21 PM PDT by RightGeek

Last night, anti-Trump protesters rioted in Costa Mesa, California. Yes, rioted. That’s what you call it when “demonstrations” turn into this:

[video of rioters trying to turn over police car]

Or this:

Just imagine for a moment the shrieking outrage if Trump supporters had tried to flip a car outside a Hillary Clinton rally. Imagine the fury at the sight of a bloody man wearing a Hillary shirt. So how did the mainstream media cover the anti-Trump riot? Hot Air’s Larry O’Connor has the details:

Check out the LA Times headline: Protests rage outside Trump rally in Orange County; 17 arrested, police car smashed. Maybe it’s me, but if your headline includes the phrase: “police car smashed,” perhaps you should go ahead and call it a riot and not the benign and righteous sounding “protest.” The Times write-up of the ugly violence begins with more apologetic language: “Hundreds of demonstrators filled the street outside the Orange County amphitheater where Donald Trump held a rally Thursday night…” “Demonstrators”??? This is a very deliberate use of language. When you have a righteous cause, you’re a “demonstrator.” The Times is using language equating these thugs with someone marching in Selma. “Demonstrators” sounds heroic.
The Washington Post used the morally-neutral term “clashed.”
Trump protesters clashed with police officers here after a campaign rally Thursday hosted by the Republican presidential candidate.
It’s just a clash, folks. Who knows how it started? Then there was this tweet from an L.A. Times reporter:

[tweet "It appears the #DonaldTrump storm has passed #CostaMesa"]

I’m sorry, but an anti-Trump riot is not a “Donald Trump storm.”

Let’s state this as plainly as possible: Nothing Trump has done justifies a violent response. Nothing. Yet the more the media whitewashes this violence and applies its typical double standard to left-wing thugs, the more the violence will escalate.

Clearly the media sympathizes with these Mexican flag-waving crowds in much the same way that it sympathized with the rioters at Ferguson and Baltimore. But when you excuse political violence, you tend to get more of it. We know leftist radicals aren’t shy about taking so-called “direct action” to intimidate opponents. We also know that at least some Trump supporters are spoiling for a fight. Trump himself has been spoiling for a fight. We risk the worst political violence in a generation. Am I wrong to believe that some in the media are thrilled at the prospect — so long as the Left is leading the charge?

Bonus for journalists looking for exciting stories. That’s not a bug, that’s a feature.

How much money does George Soros and his cohorts have in ALL
of the media? How many foreign investors have placed their
money in OUR so-called American news media? I don’t care, anymore, which media vessel reports protestors making mayhem at the Trump gatherings, the media implies, IT’S TRUMP’S FAULT and his uneducated followers. I don’t see anyone protesting Cruz, Clinton or sommers. They must be
speaking their money givers wishes.
I applaud the Trump backers and how American they face thes’’putrid pimples” calling themselves protestors. How many are paid with MoveOn.org money?

Well they are downplaying it like crazy.

You know if there were anti-Hillary protestors acting like this it would be wall to wall coverage.

“Well they are downplaying it like crazy.”

A lady at the National Review blamed Trump, accusing Trump of encouraging violence.

That is indeed a picture worth 1000 words. Says it all in a nut shell. They do not come here hoping to become Americans, they are here to take something that never belonged to them. The Southwest amounted to nothing under Mexico, Spain colonized a handful of places and when the Mexican Government took control their government was too weak (too much chaos in Mexico) for them to support the Spanish colonies.

Now they teach their children that the Southwest is somehow their birthright, and leave out the history of the Southwest. They fail to mention our war with Mexico, or the land we purchased from Mexico. This is the family values we hear about the illegals bringing with them.

They teach their children to take advantage of us in every way, to try to accomplish Reconquista. That is why they wave the Mexican flag, it is their way of saying the land should belong to Mexico. They are literally claiming the land for Mexico.

We need to stop this nonsense, border needs to be secured and illegals need to be deported. It cannot happen soon enough to suit me.

Were you still a Cruz supporter after the Chicago incident?

I’m sure it was painful for National Review to publish that, and there were probably fierce debates over it.

They seem to be coming around. After all, they have to eat too.

There is blood on David French’s hands. This guy has written as many anti-Trump columns as anyone at National Review. I’m glad he’s saying the right thing now, but he in part made it “ok” to hate The Donald.

This morning I heard the most dishonest ABC radio news blurb that I think I’ve ever heard, which is saying something. It was so slanted I couldn’t believe it. They shamelessly worded it to make Trump supporters sound like the violent ones, They even said Trump “riled up the crowd”. Talk about a loaded phrase, “riled up”. Anyone who hadn’t heard other reporting would have come away with a completely inverted understanding of happened.

The word “protest” doesn’t even seem quite accurate to describe what’s going on. These aren’t attempts to oppose a particular policy or advance a particular idea; these incidents are intended to intimidate Trump and his supporters, and to shut down free speech through threats of physical violence.

They can do or say whatever they want, but the images of the little turd jumping up and down on the police car (that SOMEONE paid for) last night combined with the La Raza signs and Mexican flag did WONDERS for Trump, independents, and unconvinced Republicans. IMO, he took a really big risk today. It was absolutely worth it.

If the La Raza crew brings this to Cleveland, the Trump supporters will Bring It.

"riled up"

Unless Trump's speech was piped outside for an overflow crowd, the protesters wouldn't even have heard the speech, so they couldn't have been "riled up" over it.
