Female Republican lawmakers are making the case for Donald Trump to choose a woman as his running mate.
Picking a female vice presidential candidate could help mitigate the damage Trump caused with women voters in the primary, they say, as well as counter Hillary Clinton if she is the Democratic nominee.
Rep. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) offered the idea, somewhat unprompted, at a Capitol Hill event hosted by the Heritage Foundation this week.
When a reporter asked a panel of conservative House Republicans who Trump should choose as his running mate, most lawmakers demurred. But Lummis, the only woman on the dais, didnt hold back.
I would suggest a woman, because some of the remarks he has made about women are not going to help him appeal to some of the 53 percent of the voting populace that are women, Lummis said.
Lummis said Trump would be well served by a running mate with more discipline to balance his unpredictability. That would be a better strategy than going the traditional route of choosing a running mate who represents a swing state, she said.

MARSHA BLACKBURN
Political positions: (Wiki, FWIW)
Marsha Blackburn speaking at the 2015 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in 2015. Blackburn is a fiscal and social conservative.
She opposed the Affordable Care Act, stating that with the passage of the bill, “freedom dies a little bit today.”[25] She subsequently supported efforts to repeal the legislation, arguing that it “means well” but fails to live up to its promise.[26] When pressed by MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on the claim that the legislation included “death panels” for the elderly, she would not reject this assertion,[27] despite the fact that, according to the Christian Science Monitor, it had been “...widely debunked by fact-checking journalism organizations.[28]
In April 2009, she questioned former Vice President Al Gore during an energy-related congressional hearing: “The legislation that we are discussing here today, is that something that you are going to personally benefit from?.[29] The Independent, a London-based periodical, has credited her for “famously put[ting Gore] on the spot about his business interests in the [energy] industry” during this confrontation.[30] Gore vociferously refuted the implied accusation, pointing out that every penny he makes from renewable technology investment goes to a non-profit.[31]
In 2013, she was chosen to manage debate on a bill promoted by House Republicans which would criminalize all abortions after 22 weeks’ gestation, with limited exceptions for rape or incest.[32] She replaced the bill’s sponsor, congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ), after Franks made controversial claims that the chances of pregnancy resulting from rape were “very low”.[33][34]
At October 2013 congressional hearings on the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as “Obamacare”, Blackburn charged that the health.gov website violated HIPAA and health information privacy rights. The next day, when a CNN interviewer pointed out that the only health-related question that the web site asks is “do you smoke?”, Blackburn repeated her criticism of the site for violating privacy rights.[35]
She scored 100% on American Conservative Unions 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 Ratings of Congress.[36][37][38] According to her campaign website, National Journal described her as a “freshman to watch” and a “top House conservative” in 2003 and 2004, Americans for Tax Reform called her a “taxpayer hero” in 2003, and the National Right to Life praised her for supporting the Medicare Prescription Drug and Modernization Act.[citation needed] In 2008, Blackburn was named one of the “Most Corrupt Members of Congress” by the government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington,[39] although the Federal Election Commission unanimously rejected CREW’s complaint.[40]
She is a staunch opponent of Net neutrality in the United States and municipal broadband initiatives. As of March 2015 her campaign has accepted at least $221,900 from contributors in the telecommunications industry. These include AT&T and Comcast who have strongly lobbied against net neutrality.[41][42][43] She supported bills that restrict municipalities from creating their own broadband networks, and wrote a bill to prevent the FCC from interfering on behalf of communities.[44][45]
Blackburn of Tennessee would be a good conservative choice.
Janice Rogers Brown would be better, unless he wants to put her on SCOTUS.
Ms. Lummis, how much voice did your voters have in the Wyoming primary? No primary? No voting? Then STFU.
Susan Martinez, governor of NM. Conservative woman with great family story, Hispanic, well spoken, been a pretty fair governor.
Nothing could be worse than three women instead of the two Clinton and Fiorina we have now, insulting each other in one huge cat-fight....having just the two will be bad enough.
Trump should NOT pick a woman as his V.P.
Repeal the 19th.
Donald Trump Jr for VP.
We are beyond gender. Father Son would be historic.
And would cost them New York's electoral votes, but it wasn't like Trump was going to win them anyway.
Wow, you are a genius! Janice Rogers Brown is the real deal. ANYBODY would love to have her on the ticket. Her legal opinions have been unfailingly pro-constitution. She was great on the Cal. Supreme Court, and great on the DC Court of Appeals. Great idea!!
If that’s the case, then into the garbage she goes.
"I would suggest a woman, because some of the remarks he has made about women are not going to help him appeal to some of the 53 percent of the voting populace that are women," Lummis said. For example? No? Not even one example of something he said? Oh, he said Fiorina, ew, that face, or whatever? That's it? Lummis is nothing but a #NeverTrump RINO, she'll only support a pro-abortion running mate, won't support her party's nominee without it, and needs to STFU.
If however this has to be a woman for electability purposes, I'd prefer a woman who has Executive Management experience at the State level.
Susana Martinez of New Mexico I think would be a good choice. Perfect? No. Pretty darn good? YES.
GOP women persist at the convention so they can flaunt their funny hats with all the pins
