Female Republican lawmakers are making the case for Donald Trump to choose a woman as his running mate.
Picking a female vice presidential candidate could help mitigate the damage Trump caused with women voters in the primary, they say, as well as counter Hillary Clinton if she is the Democratic nominee.
Rep. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) offered the idea, somewhat unprompted, at a Capitol Hill event hosted by the Heritage Foundation this week.
When a reporter asked a panel of conservative House Republicans who Trump should choose as his running mate, most lawmakers demurred. But Lummis, the only woman on the dais, didn’t hold back.
“I would suggest a woman, because some of the remarks he has made about women are not going to help him appeal to some of the 53 percent of the voting populace that are women,” Lummis said.
Lummis said Trump would be well served by a running mate with more “discipline” to balance his unpredictability. That would be a better strategy than going the traditional route of choosing a running mate who represents a swing state, she said.

Everyone is finally realizing trump is the nominee. That’s the good news. Now everyone will try to run the general for him. The bad news. Trump hold steady and do what you want. You are good at it.

Brewer is the much better ideological fit, but Martinez offers a lot more to the ticket overall.

I don’t want Trump to choose a woman. He should choose the best possible person for the job. If that happens to be a woman, I don’t mind at all. There is, however, no reason to settle for second best just to check a box on the “diversity” checklist.
The contrast between someone like Lummis, who built the family fortune with cattle and other business ventures, and Hillary, who built hers from looting the public treasury and influence peddling, couldn't be more clear.
Wyoming is one of the most solidly conservative and sensible states in the country and women have had the vote here longer than anywhere else. Yes, it is only three electoral votes, but Trump has run weakly in most of the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain states, so either Lummis or Martinez is a good choice here.
Another factor in favor of Lummis is that she is strongly pro-life and was one of the few in congress who didn't run and hide in the tall grass when the media blamed the government shutdown on the GOP in 2013. That, alone, distinguishes her from most of the pack.
he and his team will vet the best person for the job. Gender won’t matter. IMO, Jeff Sessions would be a good pick. There are others but I have no idea who is on the short list.
I wouldn’t listen to anything the GOP tells me if I were Trump—its pretty obvious it’s two-faced and quickly pulls punches.
Actually, he is the one I’d personally like to see ..... he is a great strategizer, he certainly understands Congress & I think he has a lot of respect for Trump & what he’s accomplished in the business world, plus in the campaign so far. I think they could/would get along on a personal level - Trump is a good listener & a quick study so I think he’d learn a lot from Newt in short order. I also love that snarky grin Newt gets when he’s tying the Enemedia in knots during interviews ... it’s been happening a lot lately.
There would be a lot of blowback & people automatically poo poo Newt for his “baggage” & he’s got some, but thinking ‘out of the box’ is what is needed and I don’t know of anyone who can do it better. Trump doesn’t care about blowback ... he ‘bulls’ right through it so whoever he picks, it will be interesting.

You have to wonder how that one decision would have altered the course America had taken since 2007. It is not a stretch to say it would have likely been significant, imo.
I don’t know the details, so I cannot criticize. The GOPe/RNC played a very large part in getting obama elected.

With the possible exception if that female was clearly of Margaret Thatcher quality, so there is no misunderstanding.
Speaking of Trump’s Veep, remember that Karl Rove and Co. realized finally that Ronald Reagan was going to be President, and pushed to make GHWB Regagn’s VP.
They couln’t stop the Reagan Revolution, but they did backstop it with someone who sees things through Rove colored glasses.
Let’s make sure this doesn’t happen again.

I love Sessions, but Trump will already win the south, so not sure Sessions gets him any votes. Advantage is that Sessions is a rock-steady conservative that would help reunite the vote on our side. Sessions is great on immigration and matters relating to the judiciary (former fed. judge himself who was denied a seat on the court appeals by dem. filibuster).

Agreed and there’s nobody better than Newt at navigating through the mess of D.C., which is what Trump needs. Whoever it is it will be someone like that.
