Donald Trump may be the only Republican presidential candidate who can realistically hit the magic 1,237 number for the majority of delegates, but according to a senior Republican National Committee official that does not mean he will become the GOP presidential nominee.
"Even if Trump reaches the magic number of 1,237 the media and RNC are touting, that does not mean Trump is automatically the nominee," Haugland said. "The votes earned during the primary process are only estimates and are not legal convention votes. The only official votes to nominate a candidate are those that are cast from the convention floor."

What he really means is that if Trump gets 5 delegates over goal, the party will find away to disqualify 6 delegates. That's why Trump needs to decisively exceed the limit so the party can't disenfranchise that many votes.

Wow, an outsider has sure got the RNC’s panties in a bunch. They’re ready to put the final nail in their coffin just to keep him out and stifle the voice of We the People.
Marxist phrase though it be, ‘Dustbin of history’ as applied to the GOPe sounds awfully good.
Jeff, he should have conceded this week after tuesdays landslide.
I have doubts that he will ever concede. He is showing how absolutely stupid a politician can be.
If Trump wins 1237 bound delegates, and those delegates change their vote at the convention - well, I don’t think they will.
If the GOPestablishment tried to deny Trump the nomination AFTER getting 1237, there won’t be much remaining of the Republican Party after the membership burns it down.
Unless they magically create more delegates, at 1237, Trump is the new head of the Republican party. Haugland needs to keep that in mind.
Haugland seems like nothing more than a trouble-maker.
I’m no expert, but it looks like the rules committee doesn’t mean squat. The whole delegation has to approve what the committee does. If Trump has a majority of delegates at the convention, which he will, then there is nothing they can do.
This looks like some loser from an unimportant state trying to be important/relevant. Who cares what he says.

Trump needs to make sure he gets every delegate he can, WELL in excess of the 1237, to forestall any attempts at cheating.

Every time they bring up Lincoln, they are letting us know their plan. Abraham Lincoln Convention Strategy (excerpt, Link follows):
Confident that Seward would not have enough votes to lock up the nomination on the first ballot, Lincoln intended to get the second highest vote count on the first ballot and line up additional votes for the second ballot in order to show increasing strength. He hoped that this strategy--combined with the presence of an enthusiastic band of followers on the floor--would be sufficient to win the nomination on the third or subsequent ballot.
Lincolns men left no detail unattended in their pursuit of this strategy. They made certain that Sewards New Yorkers were seated far from other critical delegations with whom they might collaborate. They printed hundreds of counterfeit tickets and distributed them to Lincoln supporters with instructions to show up early--in order to displace Sewards supporters.
They also assigned two men with noted stentorian voices to lead the cheering. One of these men reportedly had a larynx powerful enough to allow his shout to be heard across Lake Michigan

Haughland is a power hungry nut who loves spouting wild ideas to the media and he’s been at it for over ten years.
>>>>what happens if a “delegate for Trump” is a GOPE hack? <<<
Some are, and they must vote as they are designated or they are unseated on the spot.
>>>>What if he doesn’t show at the convention to cast a vote mandated for Trump?
A delegate alternate replaces him.

True, the more the merrier!
this may be the first convention where turncoat delegates get shot

What Haugland said from the start was that the party was looking to disqualify delegates to bring Trump back below 1,237 so they can force a brokered convention even if he wins.

“looking to disqualify delegates”
How so?
I wonder if this RINO hack would say the same thing for Jebito, if Jebbie was in the driver’s seat like Trump is.
I don’t think so.
I do not think the committed delegates can legally change their voters on the first ballot. I think Trump is going to have more than enough of those to win outright.
If the convention becomes contested because Trump does not have enough, then according to the rules for many of them from their states, they can vote for whomever they want after the first ballot.
But there will be time between and the candidates will have the opportunity to sway those delegates. If Trump is really close, I believe he will win on a second ballot too.
But, as it stands right now, I do not think that will be necessary.
After the landslides last Tuesday, I believe Trump is going to go well over the 1,237 committed delegate number...which has been his strategy.
Cruz’s only strategy has been to try and convince enough committed delegates to vote for him on a 2nd ballot should Trump not reach 1237. It was all Cruz had.
Personally, Indiana is the last chance for him to have any hope of preventing it...and even that, IMHO, is a slim chance.
After a Trump win in Indiana, Cruz should concede for the sake of party unity, for the sake of the country, and to help defeat Hillary in November.
This mug is what they mean by “sh*t-faced”
RNC-—IF you in charge wish to promote & create a scorched earth policy for the Republican Party-—go ahead.
A new party will take your place & you won’t have enough money to buy letterhead, envelopes & postage. Kiss your cushy jobs goodbye. We know who you are & you won’t get a job with any of our companies, either. You will be shunned.....
I have been a registered Republican voter for over 55 years. You have used up all my goodwill & my patience.
