It’s not a silly question: George Washington and Alexander Hamilton believed we needed to protect certain industries that were essential to our security-—iron and textiles. Reagan agreed, but said that Harley-Davidson could fail without impacting American security. I firmly believe if LOCKHEED had been failing in Reagan’s term, however, he would have approved a bailout of Lockheed.
Our normal policy under Reagan, for example, was to spread the submarine building contracts around to always maintain two builders (Newport News and Electric Boat), even if one wasn’t particularly competitive-—because we needed more than one to maintain competitive pressure on the other.
Trump supports this. And it’s wrong?

He tried to disguise it with the ol’ “Some are saying...” gambit, but what he really was doing was trying something, anything, to undermine the Trump juggernaut.
His whole show these days is a transparent, desperate attempt to slow down the Trump train, and everyone sees it but Rush himself.

There are none that I know of, but the vote for a vice president-—while ALMOST always carried out based on who the nominee wants-—is separate.
It is conceivable (but I’ve never actually seen it happen) that a convention could force a veep on a nominee.
Professor, isn’t it also true that Lincoln wanted industry to be onshore so America would have both the money and the rails they were making? I have some kind of hazy remembrance of him making a much quoted statement to that effect.

The talk radio entertainers (and that’s what they are) never had this much vitriol for Romney or McCain when they were running.
