Although Trump seems to be making a concerted effort to appear more presidential by delivering a speech on foreign policy in Washington on April 27 and more traditional by bringing in grown-ups like veteran GOP political operative Paul Manafort, his choice of a running mate could still be as unconventional as his cant-look-away campaign has been.
Among the obvious candidates are former rivals like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who threw himself onto Trumps gold-plated bandwagon shortly after pulling out of the primary race; Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who would help in his crucial home state and possibly offset some of the Hispanic animus toward the illegal immigrant-bashing billionaire; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, an early primary dropout and former darling of conservative fat cats; and Ben Carson, the soft-spoken former neurosurgeon who has endorsed Trump and could add gravitas to the ticket plus as an African American, he might make it seem more inclusive.

Roger Stone has made the point that Trump, for his own safety, should pick someone outside of the establishment. While it’s unpleasant to consider such things, Stone makes the case that Bush was behind the assassination attempt of Reagan. I’m not completely convinced that that’s true, but I don’t dismiss it (like I would have a few years ago) out of hand either. Stone’s book linking LBJ to the Kennedy assassination is an even more compelling case in my opinion.
Maybe someone from California. Perhaps Upland.
Senator Tom Cotton.

I want Duncan Hunter Jr.
I agree. I believe he would be an excellent choice.
If Jeff Sessions were from a swing state, he’d be almost automatic...as it is, he’s still strong.
Two from the same state isn’t allowed, is it?
Before this election season I would never have believed such a thing would put him at risk. But after the last few months, I would put nothing past the party insiders.
“Who am I? Why am I here?”

If you know Stockdale’s story as a Vietnam POW, he had the right to say just about anything he wanted to, including that. He was an American hero.
well, with Carly Purina off the board, I am at a loss for who. /sarc
Sheriff Clarke of Milwaukee...love to see a lib try to talk him down!
Honestly, I don’t have a clue who he will pick, but I think I do know who he would NOT pick - Walker, nor that pathetic Cruz.
I saw Christie standing with him after winning everything basically, so it might be Christie which is fine by me. Carson, too, great choice. I wouldn’t want Rubio, and I don’t think Trump would pick him. I would like to see perhaps Giuliani, or Newt, or Carson... But it might not be a politician. Whoever it is, I trust Trump to figure who would best fit his team style and expectations. Whoever the person is, they are one lucky dude or dudest because that VP won’t be shoved aside and just be some lamp or coat rack, no, that person will be a key player and also expected to perform.
Bill O’Reilly suggested New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez. eeeee... doesn’t... work.
I expect one of his sons to watch over “the business”, but I don’t rule them out in the future.
hmmmm... I guess we will find out.
I just did some quickie research on Webb and I withdraw my support.
He has not recognized the importance of Israel as an ally, and the last thing we need is an administration that will continue to try to twist Israel’s arm. He refused to support a resolution supporting Israel’s fight against Hamas after Hamas launched a spate of missile attacks at Israel’s civilian population. Webb has indicated that he supports a regional approach to Israel, which means a gang-up of Arab countries to put pressure on Israel.
I can’t back someone like that.
Me too. After what we have learned over the last year, what once would have seemed like crazy conspiracy theory now seems reasonable.
Nobody said he didn’t have the right to say it.
Rules don’t apply to Trump.
Someone like Stone’s previous client Al Sharpton? He’d be perfect.
So now you believe Christie is a conservative. Basically, you will believe anything the MSM tells you, no matter how ridiculous it is.
I have heard of South Dakota Senator John Thune being mentioned. Anybody have any thoughts?
