You may be deluged by unsolicited advice about what causes cancer and how to “cure” it (without an iota of knowledge of the individual’s unique tumor biology).

Find an oncologist you trust (2nd and 3rd opinions help validate your choice) and get her/his opinion about every suggested treatment before trying it, no matter how harmless it sounds. A good oncologist can explain why a certain chemical (natural or manufactured) may interfere with the effectiveness of one drug, but not another.

I was fortunate to find an oncologist who backs every opinion with the latest research, is open to alternative therapies as long as there is no evidence of harm and who is willing to also acknowledge the unknowns about a particular tumor type and best guesses at this point in time.

An oncologist/surgeon/radiologist who encourages you to record consultations recognizes how difficult it is to retain overwhelming amounts of information at a stressful time. They get an extra notch in the plus column when I am evaluating members of my treatment team.

Best wishes for a successful outcome.

Thanks. I do appreciate the advice about oncology. I happen to have an oncologist I like, but don’t know if she’s “the greatest”. Just that she has been very good with “bedside manner” - including coming to my bedside at the hospital for my post-surgery appointment, when I found myself in the ER instead of at home at the time and asked the hospital to call her and cancel. (She is from an earlier issue, that turned out not to be cancer, but was suspected and I am still monitored.)

Thank you all so much.

I am really on pins & needles now. My doctor called late this afternoon, but I didn’t want to pick up at work. (I did this before when away from home and thought the better of it while calling back - why set myself up for grief away from home and needing to drive?) I 2nd-guessed and called back, so I might not stew overnight, but too late.

So, tomorrow is the big day.

I have to say I don’t feel very positive! I fear it is “positive”! I have my reasons, including symptoms...

(Why don’t they just leave the message, “it’s negative” if it IS neg? So, you see where I’m going....)

**Please also pray for my neighbors. Their daughter, with congenital heart defects since birth (~18 now), was again in the OR yesterday trying to fix “chest pain”. She is out, praise to God, but now they need to stabilize her INR (blood thinning).

Keep in mind this is not 15 years ago. Today most people have many more good outcomes using DNA markers.
I have two friends who had massive advanced cancers and several years later now they are easily reducing things and living the full life span.

I hope you hear good news.

Prayers continue. No news can be good news - if they thought you were going to keel over in the next 24 hours they’d send someone. Either way it’s likely to be more testing. Best to you and God bless.

Damn, that's frustrating!

Their unwillingness to just leave a message doesn't necessarily mean it's positive. It just might be their protocol.

Hang in there, we're all pulling for you.

Well, yeah, cancer isn’t generally like heart disease - you aren’t going to die within days.

I started to worry more when I realized my head problems the last few months could be metastasis. Maybe the aches I get at “that” location around my chest, too. Maybe I am very advanced but no one noticed all this time! I had an MRI on my head the other month because of the weird new head issues - only problem, it was WITHOUT “contrast”. So maybe they missed tumors or other markers....very worried!

Sorry, I need to vent some!

Prayers are on the way.

Be strong and steadfast; have no fear or dread of them, for it is the LORD,
your God, who marches with you;
He will never fail you or forsake you.
