Trump: Sanders should run as independent
POLITICO ^ | April 26, 2016 | NICK GASS

Suggesting that Bernie Sanders has been treated unfairly by the Democratic Party, Donald Trump on Tuesday said that the Vermont senator should abandon his run for the Democratic nomination and instead seek an independent path to the White House.

"Bernie Sanders has been treated terribly by the Democrats — both with delegates & otherwise," Trump tweeted. "He should show them, and run as an Independent!"

Sanders and his campaign have indicated that the senator, who was still listed as an independent on his Senate website as early as this month, will continue to be a Democrat in future elections.

“Trump’s said he’s been treated badly as well. So when does he declare as an independent? “

He is showing why, among other reasons, he will be the most effective candidate against Hillary. He’s not interested in running as in independent, he’s interested in the Republican nomination, which is just about his at this point.

If Trump convinces Angry Santa to keep his elves away from the Wicked Witch, Trump will have a cakewalk in November.

It shows that Trump doesn’t believe his own propaganda that Sanders supporters will go to Trump rather than Hillary.

No, it shows that Trump empathizes with the Sanders supporters, that he understands their anger. In the end, Trump doesn't believe Sanders will run independently but Trump just gave a reason for the Sander supporters to vote for him. I think it's going to work. This isn't a conservative vs liberal, Republican vs Democrat election. This is a pissed off Americans vs the political establishment election. Trump gets it. He has from the beginning.

Trump using “Divide and Conquer” against the Democrats, just like the GOPe is trying to do to him.

Problem is Bernie Sanders understands this ploy, so may choose not to play this card, as he truly feels that the Democrats need to win.

If Bernie were to do that, it would free up Trump to run as an independent and win.

Never thought about that, but now that you’ve thrown it out there, maybe it’s not such a bad idea.

Your analysis doesn't count all of the votes that went to other candidates during the Republican primaries (i.e. Kasich, Carson, Rubio, etc). Don't know where those voters will align, but they're not counted at all in your analysis - so it can't be accurately extrapolated from. The democrats divided their vote almost exclusively between Clinton and Sanders, so the numbers you list for them is more indicative of the total democrat primary voting.

If they vote for Sanders running as a independent against Hilliary it has the same end effect, Trump wins yuge. Hillary loses more votes if Sanders stays in running against her than Sanders not running and some of his supporters voting Trump.

It would be better if he could use the Libertarian, but they won’t go for it.

Well Wayne Root their 2012 VP candidate is supporting Trump.

I believe that he may get them to accept Trump. The Libertarians are on most state ballots, a key to winning third party. Also, they are Isolationists, and Trump was never for the Iraq war, and he is for the UN and Nato paying their way. Many of Trumps main issues are the same as Libertarians positions.

If Bernie people have no place to go many of the young ones may be seeing that Trump wanting to do something about the enormous College Loan debt means he is worth voting for. Also, Trump wants to repeal Obamacare which is fining young people when they won’t go on Obamacare.

That’s true. Rubio and Kasich are another 6.6 million votes.

A 4-way election would be the only way to make the general election as interesting as the primary has been. As Krusty the Klown would say, think of the ratings...

You’d also have to get really into how the vote would split differently in each state to predict the electoral outcome. In 1824 we had 4 candidates getting over 10%. Not sure if it’s happened since.

Some of those young people get health care through their parents plans until age 26. No ObamaCare - no parents’ health care.

Also Sanders is pushing for government run health care. His followers like that.

More likely they vote the Green Party.
