Human life begins in bright flash of light as a sperm meets an egg, scientists have shown for the first time, after capturing the astonishing fireworks on film. An explosion of tiny sparks erupts from the egg at the exact moment of conception.

+1
If you keep reading there is a dark side to this story though. They want to use this spark as a measure of health for the egg and viability for the embryo.
Guess what will happen soon when the “spark” is lower than the one next to it.
Hmmm..... Only the brightest of the bunch are implanted, the rest will be flushed.
I wonder how many of us here didn’t spark bright enough with zinc for them to deem us worthy?
“Yes. Humans have human souls, animals have animal souls, etc., and even rocks have rock souls. It’s just that we’re just not equipped to sense rock souls! “
We are equipped. It’s just that people have worshiped Jesus rather than emulating Him.
Everything exists within God. When Jesus said, I and my Father are One... and I am in My Father and My Father is in Me, and if you are in Me then my Father that is in Me is also in you.
People just don’t understand this simple concept....
My late wife would tell friends that she dared them to look into the eyes of our Beagle and tell her he didn't have a soul.
“...A gleam in your father’s eye...” updated.
I believe the point TexasGator is making is the phenomenon you see presented in the article is not the phenomenon of conception, nor is it of a soul being created. It is just a biochemical reaction to an enzyme that opened calcium channels in the egg’s cell membrane such that zinc was released and triggered an electron cascade in the reaction. No eggs were fertilized in this study.
Life!

> In 1901, MacDougall weighed six patients while they were in the process of dying from tuberculosis in an old age home. It was relatively easy to determine when death was only a few hours away, at which point the entire bed was placed on an industrial sized scale which was reported to be sensitive to “two-tenths of an ounce”. He took his results (a varying amount of unaccounted-for mass loss in four of the six cases) to support his hypothesis that the ‘soul’ had mass, and when the ‘soul’ departed the body, so did this mass. The determination of the ‘soul’ weighing 21 grams was based on the loss of mass in the first subject at the moment of death.

And there are naysayers out there who will still say we all come from pond scum bacteria.
“Whats your point? That a physical explanation for a phenomenon negates the phenomenon?”
Without sperm, there is no conception.
I frankly knew the first month when I offered her a huge slice of pizza and she hoovered it down with glee
I will recall my childrens birth til the day I die - real hand of God kinda stuff....I just cried and cried at the beauty of it all
Im hopeful I win the office pool
Allowed to die. If the theory that the dim ones have damaged DNA is correct the dim ones wouldn't survive the pregnancy anyway.
What would you do with the doomed eggs?
There's the germ of a SF story here. The dim eggs are frozen simply because we can't bear to kill them or even allow them to finish the process of dying.
Some of these eggs are perfectly healthy but had the second brightest glow in their cohort, most are genetically damaged to one degree or another.
I can see where a law would be passed requiring the runners ups to be cryofrozen.
Imagine a future where the human race has survived a biological warfare event that has permanently damaged the entire species genome.
Fertilized eggs, even somewhat defective eggs, from before the war are a big improvement over what we have doing it the old-fashioned way.
Still a lottery, prospective parents have no way of knowing if a given egg is completely healthy, mildly handicapped, or even anything about the ethnic background. They do know, no matter what, the child will be healthier than any monster they could make on their own if it survived and few do.
What would a society look like where every child was effectively adopted, and few children looked like their parents, and half the kids were physically or mentally handicapped, but one where the species could survive where it otherwise wouldn't?
It might be that the eggs that fluoresce most brightly are actually the less viable ones since their cell membranes are obviously more leaky (more calcium channels reacted). Ethics aside, I’m not convinced they know whether this is actually a reliable measure of cell viability.
According to Scientology dogma, the soul has no mass.
The 21 grams is the weight of the mind, the accumulated mental image pictures from the life just left.
How heavy a burden will you or I carry when we leave?
It couldn’t be the soul. The experiment was done with just the sperm enzyme and not the actual sperm. Also, it sounds like nonviable embryos flash too. The article is correct.50% or so of embryos are totally nonviable, won’t even make it to the second trimester. I don’t think those have souls.
God’s hand.
For Thou didst form my inward parts;
Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Thy works,
And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from Thee,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth.
Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Thy book they were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.
Ps. 139:13-16, a Psalm of David
No idea. Perhaps those souls need a few partial pregnancy 'training wheels' to learn how to run a body?
Nope, not really.
Awesome!
