My local congressional district became one of those battlegrounds that we see playing out across the country, as Ted Cruz supporters outflank Donald Trump backers at the little-known, little-attended Republican Party meetings to select delegates to the national convention. Here's one delegate's story of how it all went down.
Q: Who won the district? If Trump won it, why didn't pro-Trump delegates win at the meeting?
A: The primary dictates how the delegates are to vote on the first ballot. It doesn't dictate who the people are that are elected to represent the convention body at the RNC.
Q: Did any Trump supporters show up? How did they take the results?
A: I would estimate that of all the delegates casting votes, approximately 20% to 25% were Trump supporters. They were understandably upset that their slate did not get approved by the convention body. I spent most of the morning explaining to the leader of their group exactly what was going on and how things were going to move forward. I wanted to make sure they were comfortable with understanding the process.
Q: Why do you think the results went down the way they did?
A: The delegates wanting to support Trump were just late getting involved in the process. I don't think the campaign fully understood how important the actual delegates could be if it came down to a brokered convention. Once it became obvious that the convention may go that route, it was too late to start the process. The delegate process started with mass precinct meetings in February. In February it looked like Trump would easily walk away with the nomination.

Notice that Rush refers to Trump callers as Trumpests meaning Trump Pests. I don't think I have seen or heard anyone else use this screed.
Already belittling Trump supporters because they are too dense to understand how the system works. Cruz is the anti-establishment no one else. Trouble is not many believe either one of them.
I agree. And I don't believe the polls that say Trump will lose to Hillary. She's the worst politician/candidate I've ever seen.
Be careful what you wish for.
Bravo! You get it.
We have had one for 30 years so what do you really fear?
Why are you such an insulting person?
“a revision of their rules to be applied in future elections”
That is exactly what Trump has been talking about. He’s wanting to win with the system and rules as they currently are. They refuse to bribe delegates the way Cruz is. Donald Jr made the comment that the way delegates are bribed is ILLEGAL in business and that you would go to jail for it. And it’s true. I think Trump has been stunned by how dirty it is, starting with IA. Which is why Donald JR says “politicians wouldn’t last five minutes in business”.
No one gets to where you are signing 22K paychecks by acting like politicians do.
An all-powerful central government is what I fear.
=====++++=====================
Like the all powerful government of Jerry Brown
Many in California will be moving to your state soon ex Colorado
Then all you have to do is move!
That is insulting. As the Trump hate has unfolded, one common thread of criticism has emerged: “Trump is angering blacks, women, Muslims, and Hispanics.” Let me ask in retort, “How has pandering to and coddling said groups helped our nation?” Rush used to be fearless in standing up to Political Correctness. Now he is part of the problem. Communists, Fascists, and totalitarians throughout history sought to not only silence those who disagreed with them, but humiliate them. Rush has joined the mockers.
Spot on.
Sorry, do you need a whaaaaambulance?
States rights were effectively killed after the Civil War, and then neutered all over again ever since by the courts and the threats to cut off Federal funding if they don’t tow the line on any issue. I don’t like it, but it’s true. As far as the primary process, it needs to be reformed. This race has exposed its corruption and flaws.
He is now alibiing Cruz losing tonight because he will Stop Trump in Indiana.
He is going into great detail of the genius plan Cruz had from the getgo to win all the delegates then that evil Trump came along and robbed him.
I have listened to Rush since the first week he was on and I have never heard him ridicule liberals as badly as he has Trumpests. I know he will in the end be anti Hillary but it is painful to witness his diatribe as Cruz's ship sinking.
Beck looked like he was back on his meds, Levin is hopeless. Just tune in to check their temperature, no way can I watch a show as I did in the past.
They can say whatever they want about Cruz, and they have, but it doesn’t make it so, and I’m not willing to simply take them at their word on such a serious charge.
Where’s the proof that Cruz has bribed delegates?
Trump himself has admitted to giving to politicians in order to get their blessing on what he wants to do in business. He says that’s just a reality and he had no choice if he wanted to accomplish anything. I accept him at his word in that case. He’s right and we know it..
But to then say if this were done in business you’d go to jail? By his own admission, many times, Trump did exactly that and did not go to jail. That I’m aware of anyway.
If he wants to run under Party rules, he should let it all play out, because there are rules in place that aren’t going to change this election cycle. Maybe never.
But it appears that he counted on large crowds translating into a win, and it didn’t work out for him any more than Cruz counting on the evangelical vote in the south worked out for him. Facts are facts.
At this point, he has a plurality, as you know. He may indeed win the nomination, but he has not done so until he’s secured the 1237 delegates.
That’s hilarious!
And no, never went to public schools.
Episcopalian, yuh know? Us WASPs still have our private parochial schools.
PS - it was great fun to stand in front of the oldest Episcopalian Church in America the other day in St. Augustine. Just think, my Anabaptist and Hueguenot ancestors beat the crap out of your Catholic Spaniard buddies there and helped make North America safe for the Rule of the People.
Donations to politicians under law is different than the way delegates are being basically bribed. That is what Don Jr was talking about.
