(AP)A grand jury has reportedly decided to indict Johnny Manziel on a misdemeanor assault charge stemming back to an incident between the former Cleveland Browns quarterback and his ex-girlfriend.

KRLD-AM, a CBS radio affiliate in Dallas, reported the news, citing sources in the Dallas County District Attorney's office. The grand jury reviewed the case last week.

Manziel has had a controversial and rough offseason. He was cut by the Browns, dropped by two agents, has gotten virtually no interest from any NFL teams, and now has been indicted. On Jan. 30, Manziel and his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley had an altercation. Crowley said that Manziel struck her many times that night and suffered damage to her left ear. A protective order was issued against Manziel.

Smallish QBs can make it in the pros if they’re smart and dedicate themselves.

Russell Wilson is a great example. And a terrific role model.

The other shoe drops on Manziel’s career. Since his release by the Browns, Manziel has been reported to be partying regularly with Josh Gordon, another guy seemingly determined to never play in the NFL again. Manziel has shown no indication that he will ever get serious about repairing his life or restarting his NFL career. At this point, the only concern for those who care about this guy should just be that he lives to see 25.

The sportwriters etc. were all so in love with giving the Heisman to a freshman for the first time. Kinda reminds me of those wanting to vote for the first black guy as POTUS. Why, this guy, with a nickname made up by students on campus, was perfection personified etc.

There’s a reason why no freshman had every won the Heisman before. Too shallow, too immature etc. And now he’s ruined. Probably never recover.

Going from college to NFL, no matter how good you are, is very difficult. It’s incredibly sad that no one was able to step in to put him on the right path, but maybe he wasn’t going to allow anyone to do so.

I hope he’s able to get back on track. He’s got great potential, with the right guidance.

Agree. Fran Tarkenton, Len Dawson, Doug Flutie, and Drew Brees, too.

For stealing Cleveland’s money? The guy is a coward. He knows that he is a college stud and an NFL dud. Instead of being out of football because he doesn’t have the talent, now he can go through life blaming his ‘illness” for not burning up the gridiron.

When he finds out he has no money to “gift” his ex out of her testimony, and is sentenced to actual jail time, he will bawl like a baby.

Maybe they can put together a Lawrence Phillips control squad for him.

That worked well.

Oh...wait...

Wow, I’m surprised! We actually have a WHITE athlete who beat up his GF. That’s a comparatively rare occurrence. Oh well, maybe he can join the sCruze Campaign. He’ll fit right in!

Have to agree with pepsionice.

OK, baseball talents are one thing.

But a guy with this many pathological features is not going to even "accept" a severe demotion to the baseball minor leagues.

He's had a taste of the NFL high life.

He will go even crazier, (if that's possible) riding on a bus for 3 years as a minor leaguer.

He can't just jet off to Vegas or LA whenever he feels the urge during the season.

He'll be expected to play every day.

He isn't going to like the 24K per year either.

Oops, I meant I agree with taterjay.

NOT pepsi.

The guy is simply bad news any way you look at it.

An NFL team would have to have a screw loose to even consider Manziel for anything.

I doubt a MLB club would take on a chance on him either.

If he was some kind of Mike Trout level prospect, maybe.

But he isn't.

But he’s perfect for the Browns. I moved back to Cleveland from Milwaukee 20 years ago, and immediately lost interest in pro sports,
