GUTHRIE: Do you believe in raising taxes on the wealthy?

TRUMP: I do. I do – including myself. I do.

That was...this morning, in an interview that featured some other controversial statements.  In fairness to Trump, he's been using the "raise taxes on rich people like me" line for months, embracing Obama-style class warfare tax gimmicks like the 'Buffet Rule.'  But raising taxes on anyone, an outcome Trump just re-endorsed, is not what his formal policy agenda proposes.  Just the opposite.  As we've seen on issues such immigration, abortion and foreign policy, Trump routinely makes clear that he isn't familiar with his own positions.  His stances aren't rooted in conviction, coherent ideological underpinnings or governing philosophy.  They "evolve" and morph depending on how Trump is feeling in any given moment.  Some professed conservatives may be perfectly comfortable voting for a tax-hiking, entitlement reform-opposing critic of Ronald Reagan's tax cuts.  But many Republicans, including a 62 percent majority of GOP primary voters thus far, aren't eager to turn the keys of the party over to someone whose record and current statements build a strong case against the proposition that he's reliable conservative -- or much of a conservative at all.  Parting thought: It's astonishing that this man appeals to people who loathe establishment "insider" types.  Earlier in the answer above, longtime Democratic donor chuckles with multimillionaire celebrity newsman Matt Lauer about all the fancy parties they've attended together with hotshot bankers in New York.  Man of the people.

So a generally Pro-Cruz conservative is not allowed to comment when the preferred populist heads off the conservative reservation to agree with liberals?

Cruz inordinately sees himself as Reagan in 1976. He wants to repeat that even to the floor fight and the 1980 coronation and win.

However, the field of battle is different this time. Cruz is not fighting the Establishment Liberals (Ford). Trump is a different animal calling for a different strategy.

Trump may or may not beat Hillary. But Cruz cannot beat Trump without it being a pyric victory. So Ted needs to back off, let Trump win and the chips fall, score some points, and still be the guy all the TRUMP supporters want next time. The only way to do that is to JOIN HANDS.

I generally agree, and recommend one alteration to your formulation:

Back off on the anti-Trump rhetoric, play nicely through the rest of the primaries, and show up with fewer delegates. Then ask Mr. Trump:

“What’s it worth to you to have a coronation today?”

And score as many points for conservatism as you can.

Supreme Court Justices pre-named.

0bamaCare dismantled.

Department Heads we like.

Then join hands on the podium and ask all your delegates to join Mr. Trump in beating Hillary.

What happens if there are no more rich? Which raises the question who is rich? How does one define rich? The term “rich” always ends up meaning Middle Class. The middle class is disappearing.

Remember when Obama defined "the rich" as anyone making more than $250,000/year? Remember 'his campaign promise'...that under his plan, nobody making under $250,000k/year would see their taxes OF ANY KIND go up? Yeah. So much for campaign promises. Now, the middle class has all but been destroyed, seven years later....and many of the so-called rich, the investors and many businesses have either gone out of business or have moved out of the country to escape the Leftism.
