GUTHRIE: Do you believe in raising taxes on the wealthy?
TRUMP: I do. I do – including myself. I do.
That was...this morning, in an interview that featured some other controversial statements. In fairness to Trump, he's been using the "raise taxes on rich people like me" line for months, embracing Obama-style class warfare tax gimmicks like the 'Buffet Rule.' But raising taxes on anyone, an outcome Trump just re-endorsed, is not what his formal policy agenda proposes. Just the opposite. As we've seen on issues such immigration, abortion and foreign policy, Trump routinely makes clear that he isn't familiar with his own positions. His stances aren't rooted in conviction, coherent ideological underpinnings or governing philosophy. They "evolve" and morph depending on how Trump is feeling in any given moment. Some professed conservatives may be perfectly comfortable voting for a tax-hiking, entitlement reform-opposing critic of Ronald Reagan's tax cuts. But many Republicans, including a 62 percent majority of GOP primary voters thus far, aren't eager to turn the keys of the party over to someone whose record and current statements build a strong case against the proposition that he's reliable conservative -- or much of a conservative at all. Parting thought: It's astonishing that this man appeals to people who loathe establishment "insider" types. Earlier in the answer above, longtime Democratic donor chuckles with multimillionaire celebrity newsman Matt Lauer about all the fancy parties they've attended together with hotshot bankers in New York. Man of the people.

Trump isn’t saying raise everyone’s taxes. Truth is the rich have many, many loopholes and some don’t pay as much as regular people working - they get all the tax breaks. There are many, many companies that don’t pay any taxes, and just look at that Mercer guy who supports Cruz - he owes the IRS something like 6 billion dollars, and Ted wants to do away with the IRS - This is a nothing burger.
LOL
Yep. Just making sure we keep count (4 so far) of today’s Trump disasters.
If they are, which is doubtful, it’s a little late. Evidently, he is pretty sure of the mentality of his conservative supporters, why wouldn’t he be, he got them hook, line and sinker with one statement.......”we are building a wall, they are going back and the good ones can come back in.” (Which is simply touchback and the dumbed down version of the Gang of Eight bill.), but it worked.
Why should I care about taxes on the rich?
In the past I was opposed to them, because the rich were supposed to be reinvesting that wealth back into the economy - low taxes were a win-win game for everyone.
But they haven’t actually been doing that. They’ve been hoarding wealth and not recycling it back into the economy. They broke the implied contract under which we stood up for their interests - they told us to go take a hike.
So let them be taxed. The government serves only them, and only they should pay for it while that is the case. I’m fully willing to throw them under the bus at this point in order to get something of value in return.
They’ve been driving that bus over us time and time again, circling around the block for extra passes, throwing it in reverse and drive and reverse again to flatten us to the greatest extent possible.
Why should the rich not be the exclusive source of funds for governments that serve only the rich? Let them pay for the maintenance of their own property. They bought it, they own it, and now they can pay for it.
yep, and a good way to do that is to implement an across the board 15% flat tax for EVERYBODY to include taxing dividends on all personal investments when those dividends are moved or distributed
ok
Trump is talking about making it flatter and fairer. It ought to beat the whatsis out of today’s social engineering schemes.
That was so 2008. I see pictures of Donald kissing a very female Rudy on FR these days.
Here’s the truth from his website. You ever been there?
Cruz Simple Flat Tax
Jobs, growth, and opportunity will reignite promise for millions of American families who are currently being crushed by the Obama economy. The best way to jumpstart growth is through fundamental tax reform.
Under the Cruz Simple Flat Tax, all income groups will see a double-digit increase in after-tax income. The current seven rates of personal income tax will collapse into a single low rate of 10 percent. For a family of four, the first $36,000 will be tax-free. The IRS will cease to exist as we know it, there will be zero targeting of individuals based on their faith or political beliefs, and there will be no way for thousands of agents to manipulate the system.
The results will be truly dramatic. According to the well-respected Tax Foundation, the Simple Flat Tax will deliver an economic boost of tremendous magnitude. In the first decade, the Simple Flat Tax will:
Boost Gross Domestic Product by 13.9 percent above what is currently projected.
Increase wages by 12.2 percent.
Create 4,861,000 additional jobs.
This is nothing new. He already said this months ago.
What happens if there are no more rich? Which raises the question who is rich? How does one define rich? The term rich always ends up meaning Middle Class. The middle class is disappearing.

The Bernie plan:
Take all the money from the richest 2%. Give it to the poor.
Repeat monthly until there are no rich people left. Only poor. It’s OK, though. We’ll all be 100% poor.
The top 5% of taxpayers pay more than 60% of the taxes - and you don’t think that’s enough?
The deception is to pretend that Trump never stood for this and to try and spin this as if it is Trump flip flopping.

“And from his GMA discussion today, wants to change the Platform to call for an Abortion exception for rape and incest.”
Not surprised at all. And he’s so completely falsifying Reagan’s record, he actually claims that’s the same position Reagan had.
>> I believe Trump. A smarter person wrote up the website.
He hires really good people, you know.
Just don’t ask too many questions about Himself. ;-)
Yes 25% , I am corrected.
Yep and the very Rich are the ones selling America out.
Maybe to them it never was. But why were they so down on the RINOs?
I doubt seriously if Jim will appreciate your dragging him into this thread.
But do what you think is best.
