Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.
Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.
"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"
"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."
Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

How he feels about it is not relevant to what he can do as President.
I want a SC nominee who will read the original intent of the Constitution.
So, save me the pompus views regarding social issues, when St.Cruz can't do anything about them.
You’re referring to an ectopic pregnancy.
If the child is removed from his mother’s fallopian tube (where he does not belong), with today’s technology he will certainly die. His mother, probably, will live. If the child is NOT removed from his mother’s fallopian tube (where he does not belong), with today’s technology both he and his mother will certainly die.
The purpose of this operation is to save one of two lives which will both certainly be lost absent the operation. An induced abortion involves killing a healthy (or even not healthy) child developing where he belongs in his mother’s uterus.
There's two strikes already. Let's see how long it takes before he renews his support for an assault weapon ban.
Including St.Cruz.
So, I am for making abortion completely illegal if it includes punishment for murder.
But the pro-life groups want to call it murder but not punish it as murder!
Of course I’m being consistent.
I notice nobody refers to “St. Trump”, although many of his supporters deserve the name “zealot”. It’s fairly obvious why ...
But Trump is not a Conservative.
Twisted how?
Trump got 386K in Wisconsin, Cruz got 126K in NY.
386K > (3 * 126K).
I am waiting but not holding my breath.
They want to call it murder, but not punish it as murder.
So enough Trump will back full fledged Pro Choice.....and Trump supporters will be just fine with it. They’ll call it a “YUGE” stroke of genius.
Yes, no one thinks that Trump is running for minister of the nation, he is running for President, to deal with issues that the President can deal with.
The Establishment GOP don't care about wining - they want to stop Trump by hook or crook. Of the two best answers Trump can give to minimize the damage it is to sacrifice the social agenda ultra right to pivot towards the middle. This is a fight to the death over Islam/borders and trade. That is all that matters.
I don’t care if you think Trump is “a Conservative”.
He wants to get rid of the same liberal shit that I want to get rid of.
More than Trump, that much is a given.
**Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: “We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.”**
Let’s keep it the same, please.
Presidents appoint Judges and Justices. Party platforms outline ideals. Trump is ABSOLUTELY DEAD WRONG suggesting this change to the Republican Party Platform, and bloody stupid letting the abortionist leftists at NBC (who will never in a million years vote for him) buffalo him. The proper response is "The Platform is just fine the way it is, Savannah. I absolutely wouldn't change a thing." Little moments like these really reveal where politicians truly stand. His instinct is to cave in on abortion. That's disturbing.
We’re not winning the White House this year.
