Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.
Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.
"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"
"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."
Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

He sets the agenda. He owns the “bully pulpit.” And his views on life reflect his character and worldview.
For starters, he could at least re-enable the Mexico City policy (see below)
A useless platform, since the Party cannot do anything about it. (post #515 to SR)
You flunk history. Reagan wasn't able to make great strides, either. But your "absolute" statement wouldn't apply to Reagan, now would it? Reagan was able via the Mexico City Policy to get international funds deflected from funding abortion overseas.
That meant more babies wound up living overseas than would have otherwise been paid-for by your sanctioned taxdollars...
No one gets punished for the crime?
Or only the one performing the abortion, but not the mother?
Sorry to disappoint you, but Trump supporters will now adopt his pro-abortion stance and mock the rest of us for being pro-life. I have already seen them defend Planned Parenthood, Kelo, etc.
And St. Cruz is going to do what about abortions?
You have never served on a platform committee have you?
Didn't read context here...but a statement like this usually means, "I'm used to wallowing in the immoral cesspool of ... xyz (feel in the blank), thank you! So, hey, let's cater to it as long as I'm spoon-fed a few populist lines"
I have said that here plenty of times about a number of people who advocate for abortion. I just happen to be strongly pro-life and think that those who advocate that haven’t considered what their mothers could have done
Who the heck said anything about Cruz? I swear, some people here, if Trump said he’d start burning Christians at the stake, their response would be “But what would Cruz do?” I don’t have to vote for any of them.
And what will St. Cruz do about abortion if he is elected President?
You are way out of line.
OK. So you weren’t actually calling for Trump to take a dirt nap or anything. We’re good.
So if Romney had been more liberal, he would have won?
What do you believe?
Should abortion be illegal? If so, under what circumstances?
Who should be punished for committing or abetting the crime of abortion?
So winning the White House with a liberal posing as a Republican is a win? I think not.
And what will St.Cruz do about these social issues?
Trump is in the party of Trump. We are so screwed this election cycle.
No, he most adamantly was not.
