JERUSALEM Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday his country will never withdraw from the Golan Heights and the strategic plateau bordering Syria will forever stay in Israeli hands.
In a ceremonial Cabinet meeting in the Golan marking the one-year anniversary of his current government's formation, Netanyahu said he doubts Syria will ever return to what it was before the devastating civil war that has gripped it for more than five years. He said he would not oppose diplomatic efforts to stabilize Syria as long as they didn't come at the expense of Israel's security. Netanyahu added that, regardless, the border would not change and it was time for the world to finally recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan.
"I chose to have this festive Cabinet meeting on the Golan Heights to send a clear message: The Golan Heights will forever remain in Israeli hands," he said. "It's time, after 50 years, that the international community finally recognizes that the Golan will forever remain under Israeli sovereignty."
The remarks drew quick condemnation from Syria, which lays claim to the territory under international law.

Israel as ATTACKED from the Golan Heights and won the territory in a war they did NOT instigate.
If they give it back, their entire country is less than 7 miles wide at some points.
They won it fair and square
as = WAS (man my typos are getting reall bad) (<~~~ ooops! see?)
I view that particular geographical situation as a matter of strategic survival necessity for Israel. Any attempt to change their control of that area I would take as an act preceding declaration of war on Israel by Muslims.
Have you ever seen the Golan Heights?
You can shell the entire country from up there.
Israel would be incredibly foolish to leave.
If they give it back, their entire country is less than 7 miles wide at some points.
They won it fair and square *
I stand with Israel.
This reminds me of the Mexicans whining about the land we took in the mid-1800’s.
They attacked us first.
We won fair and square, gave them back the part that is now Mexico, and paid them for some useless border land.
The USA should “reconquistador” Mexico and get some free oil and they can pay us back for all the jobs stolen by illegals.
“The remarks drew quick condemnation from Syria, which lays claim to the territory under international law.”
Well, under God’s law, the territory belongs to the Jews.
God bless Netanyahu and Israel.
Hang on, Israel, your enemy in the White House will soon be replaced by a friend.
check a map.....the Golan doesn’t effect the “width of the country” that’s the West Bank.
I know it was one of those two places...
but still- the country would be 7 miles wide if they gave that up, right?

Nor should they.
