Donald Trump is poised to run away with next weeks Republican primary in New York, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC New York/Marist poll shows.
The New York businessman leads his closest rival, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, by 29 percentage points among likely Republican primary voters, 54% to 25%, the poll finds. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is a distant third, as the top choice of 16% of likely Republican voters.
The results for Mr. Trump mirror a survey released earlier this week by the Journal, NBC News and Marist that also showed the Republican front-runner with 54% support. The biggest potential development to come from the latest batch of data is the emergence of Mr. Kasich as the clear second-place alternative to Mr. Trump.
If theres someone to watch in the closing hours, closing days, its Kasich, said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. He said the Ohio governor seems to owe his rise to Cruz voters, because support for the Texas senator recently has trailed off while support for Mr. Trump has not diminished.
With the front-runner holding such a big lead, suspense in the contest focuses more on the size of Mr. Trumps expected winning margin than on whether he will claim victory. He needs to eclipse the 50% threshold in as many of New Yorks 27 congressional districts as possible to collect the lions share of the states 95 delegates.
-----
Among Republican primary voters, Mr. Trump performs slightly better in and around New York City than he does upstate, but he exceeds the 50% mark in both regions.

Typical Cruz supporter. Trump will get close to 60% when its all said and done, which will be enough to mathematically eliminate Ted. The 82nd delegate eliminates him at which point Ted officially reverts to his usual turd in the punch bowl status. Bad bad week for Ted. His lying and underhandedness have caught up to him.
Thebest part will be Cruz coming in third in the low teens but giving a great victory speech.
Cruz will say he won Texas...his home state .....so the NY “loss” is not really a loss.
Since this is the WSJ/PMSNBC Trump hating poll, add at least 5% more to Trump’s percentage.
“If Trump were as popular in NY as everyone depicts him, he should be getting 60, 70, or even 80 percent. So the tells me almost half of NYers could care less of the Trumpster.”
Yup, even around 50% of NY GOP primary voters realize that if Trump couldn’t even read the rules for a primary, how is he going to run the country?
Cruz is surging after WI!
I guess he thought we would be awed by his brilliance.
Heh.......more awed than he is about his brilliance?
Slick Teddie falls below 10%. Don’t think so? Name the Congressional District he wins. Kay-sick doesn’t win any either. Trump sweeps NYS.
Kasich is catching Cruz in the national polls too.
Cruz will win all the delegates in WY tomorrow. Pretty bad week?
Not only the NY poll, but FOX just released a NATIONAL poll today which shows Trump tops Cruz by 45-27 percent among GOP primary voters in a new Fox News national poll on the 2016 election. John Kasich comes in third with 25 percent.
It is clear as day, the base wants Trump, not Cruz. In fact, Cruz is on his way down, I would rather see Kasich in second at this juncture than that “double agent delegates” Cruz and his talk about “winning delegates” instead of “winning votes” - because he can’t win votes, he needs to be stopped along with the GOPe double agent delegate rape of the base vote.
Nobody cares about Wyoming or Nebraska or Iowa or any of the other states that have more empty space than people. Let’s put this in simple terms. If Cruz was a mechanic he’d be performing oil changes while Trump would be doing engine overhauls. So if Cruz did 20/day he might gross $600 whereas Trump would be grossing about $3000/day. Ted can clean up all the little states he likes but after NY on Tuesday he’s mathematically eliminated. You and all the other sycophants can hope and pray for a contested convention which isn’t going to happen. But hey, whatever floats your boat in Iowa.
Since Cruz only got 43 percent in Texas, that means more than half of Texans could care less for chubby scarface.
Where’s it coming from when Trump only has 37% of the popular vote in the primary? Their poll seems to do a bad job of picking out who actual primary voters are.
You remind us all once again how snide, arrogant leftists from deep blue liberal states like NJ like to defecate on solid Republican “flyover states.” The rest of us will continue to respect states which deliver Republican electoral votes over the ones that give us Democrats every time.
