Not this crap again - the headline is not even right. It was a Trump delegate who was immediately called and set straight by the RNC.
Dream on.
Next day in the news. “Whoops, my mistake, GOPe wins their choice, my bad,”
“Republican National Committee member Randy Evans said Wednesday that Donald Trump would likely be able to secure the Republican nomination if he captures anything more than 1,100 delegates, short of the 1,237 delegates needed for a simple majority.”
A few folks have said that's true; nobody has said it isn't.
The RNC was for Trump all along.
Not really. I guess Cruz only needs 65% of the remaining to get to 1100. So this stuff about being mathematically eliminated is untrue if you only need 1100.
This would be fair. Ted Cruz is down in the muck - with no hope of winning on the first ballot - trying to steal any votes he can for the second ballot. But I think that if Trump is very close to 1237 - even if he doesn’t have it totally clinched - will still be the nominee.
This aired on MSNBC. ‘Nuff said.
Full transcript of the snippet posted at the link:
“What I do expect to happen is this, is that if Donald Trump exceeds 1100 votes, he will become the Nominee, even though he may not have 1237. If he gets less than 1000 delegates, then I think we’re looking at a contested convention that could go on for many, many days. And then in the middle, there’s that gray area between 1000 and 1100, and that’s where the unbound delegates or the delegates that have been released by other candidates come into play, to see if there are enough of those to get either Cruz or Trump over the finish line.”
What kind of deal was struck in the RNC meeting with Trump?
Not possible. The rules specify 1237. Not 1100.
This is unfair!
The rules have been designed to stop Trump!
Trump was GOPe all along. Who knew?
I’ve not seen the interview, but no, under the current rules, a majority is required, not a “large plurality.” That’s 1,237.
Although the rules could be changed, that would require at least a majority too. And the only way that happens is if
1. All first-ballot Trump delegates go along (and they aren’t required to; their pledge is only to support the candidate’s nomination, not miscellaneous rule-change motions); and
2. Some other, presumably non-Cruz delegates join in by the hundreds.
Even if the rules were changed and Trump were thus nominated by less than a majority, Trump (or any candidate nominated through such a process) would be dead meat. A large enough share of the other candidates’ supporters would not vote for Trump in November — even if they otherwise would have, without a rule change.
Mind you, I suspect the GOP is dead meat anyway, having ripped itself apart fighting over Trump v. Cruz. Most of the loser’s supporters will still support the winner in November, but enough will stay home to lock it up for Obama’s third term. :(
Not really. This is just one man's opinion that he thinks Trump could get enough unbound delegates to make up the difference. But since most of those "unbound" delegate spots will be filled with Cruz supporters or party officials, I doubt he would be too successful at wooing them.
Trump has had the upper hand in the negotiations all week.
Watching him use the blowtorch that was handed to him over the weekend.................well, it’s been a beautiful sight, and I said he would force a change.
It can be argued that Cruz had nothing to do with the corruption and tyranny of CO. Nevertheless it’s all been put on his shoulders, and we all know he’s not strong enough to handle 10% of the attacks Trumps had.
Many here call it whining by Trump, which makes me laugh. Even the RNC has been forced to bow by that so-called-whining.
Cruzers, buckle the belts, ‘cuz from here on out it’s not going to be pretty for Ted.
That’s cheating! The rules are the rules.
He’s stealing the election.
It’s the corrupt establishment.
Cristie is crying.
Schumer is laughing.
Hillary is ecstatic.
I checked the official gop site; https://www.gop.com/official-2016-gop-delegate-count/
Trump has 755 and needs 482
Cruz has 521 and needs 716
There are 798 remaining
Trump needs 60.4% of the remaining delegates.
Cruz needs 89.7% of the remaining delegates.

The headline omits trumps name. That kind of hatred can be directed only at someone trying to save the country from the bastards who’ve turned the GOP into a full blown opportunist country wrecking gang of well dressed pricks
But if he gets 1,099 he can’t win.
