Republican National Committee member Randy Evans said Wednesday that Donald Trump would likely be able to secure the Republican nomination if he captures anything more than 1,100 delegates, short of the 1,237 delegates needed for a simple majority.
"If Donald Trump exceeds 1,100 votes, he will become the nominee even though he may not have 1,237," Evans said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
Evans' comment is good news for Trump if it's a sentiment shared by other RNC members, since Trump is at risk of falling short of a majority of delegates by the time of the convention in July. But Evans also warned that if Trump slips much more, the nomination would likely fall to someone else.

After April 26, Cruz should drop out for the good of the party. It is a possibility that Cruz will come in third in NY, PA, and MD.
>>Trump will easily surpass 1100 delegates. He should have well over a 1000 by April 26th.<<
950 will probably be closer to the mark by then. 1000 will be real tough.
I get it...only the Trump voters are amazing.
If it's not Cruz or Trump, most of us are gone, and Rinse knows that.
Kasich can’t win another primary, Cruz will be mathematically eliminated, Trump will have 100 or so - thus the winner.
sorry 1100 or so
This is because he cuts a rubio or kasich deal? Or negotiations with individual delegates?
He has a real job ... Faux Messiah.
>>All I know is my goal from this point forward is to destroy the Republican Party once and for all, no matter who wins.<<
And yet you and your ilk want to choose the GOP’s nominee. Interesting, that.
Maybe that’s the reason the party has rules. To stop people who want to destroy it from actually doing it. If that’s true, Cruz will win on the second ballot and the GOP will be pulled further to the right than most of you will have dreamed possible a year ago.
But go back to calling everyone who bests Trump a thief, take his advice and call and threaten Cruz supporters, and don’t ask yourself whether he’d trash the Constitution if he disagreed with its “rules” because you will almost certainly be disturbed by the obvious answer.
President Cruz chuckle - so funny. Master of arcana that no one ever voted for. And you guys lambasted Obama for no popular support.
An RNC member; the RNC apparently does not want Trump to run independently.
“I think his speculation amounts to Trump being able to get 1237 votes on the first ballot, with a combination of 1100 delegated bound by state part rules, and the remainder made of delegates who are not bound to a candidate by state rules. The unbound delegates are NOT part of the delegate counting that preoccupies the press.”
You are exactly correct. I taught election law and party rules, for ten years in the state of Texas. Party rules for state parties and the national party are not rocket science nor are they hidden in some clandestine way to defeat Trump as he seems to think they are.
Party rules are on every state Republican Party website and the Republican National Committee rules are on their website. Below is the link to the Republican National Party rules and below that is the link to the Colorado State Republican Party rules. I link to Colorado due to the amount of vitriol from Trump and others toward that particular state party.

Why would anyone vote to nominate Cruz on a second ballot?
If the point is to throw the popular candidate overboard for a less successful candidate, why not simply race all the way to the bottom and select the least successful candidate we can find? Whoever actually has the least number of delegates earned through votes must be the best choice!
He is NOT saying Trump wins with 1100, he is saying if he comes in with 1100, he will get an additional 137.
“Cheater!!! The Fix Is IN!! Not Fair! The System Is Rigged!”
Those are the cries/whining about rules. See my post 111 for info. on rules.
I want to enter some thoughts on what I think is happening. Rule 40b ,requiring 8 state majorities disqualifies any vote for any candidate except Trump or Cruz. I am advised that Cruz stole enough delegated with the RNC snakes by disenfranchising all voters in Colorado in a trick and scheme designed and executed by the RNC and celebrated on the RNC Twitter account with “#WESTOPPEDTRUMP”. This despicable “rigged” process bypassing the people’s will was # 8 for sCruz. ( if it stands after challenges now scheduled not only for Colorado but Louisiana, Texas , Oklahoma and other stated that screwed the voters.)
Now, I take you back to Rule 40b. To change that rule ,it must be changed and approve by the delegates on the floor. It will not be changed because it would be adverse to the positions of both Trump and Cruz. Thus no one else can be nominated EVER!! Get off this “its ok on the 2nd ballot” That is dead wrong. No nomination without 8 state majorities EVER!!
Now we have a rules committeeman come out with this astounding statement with no clear basis in fact UNLESS THEY CHANGE THE RULE TO 1100 in exchange for an agreement with Trump/ Cruz on rule 40 being also modified to let their puppets be nominated at some point.( they will then screw Trump by challenging his delegates to be seated)
I would discourage Trump/ Cruz from falling for this rues simply because the bound delegated are ineligible to vote any way until their candidate had an 8 state majority and as such only the delegates then qualified to vote are participants to obtain a majority. Since bound delegates are frozen out and 400 are not then qualified then the majority needed is only 1037!! I am suggesting that the RNC is a bunch of snakes and they are in big time negotiations on Rule 40 because they have to be. The floor will never approve a change. Any rule change must be ratified on the floor. Cruz /Trump together control 80% of the floor!! Rules are by God rules!! Remember Colorado!!
This is a ploy to lull Trump into actually believing it, so that he slacks off on getting delegates.
When he shows up with more than 1100 but less than 1237, the rope-a-dope GOPe will just tell him, “Sorry, you actually did need 1237”.
Swwwwweet Tears of Tedlims!
Just like Trumps kids are too lazy to register to vote, Whining Donald it too lazy to read & learn the different state primary rules.
I agree wholeheartedly. Lucy with the football.
