Rudyard Kipling wrote a prescient poem in 1919, called "Gods of the Copybook Headings.". This is, simply put, a must-read poem.
Copybooks were texts that allowed British schoolchildren of the time to practice penmanship, and the phrase they would copy -- often a phrase of a sermon, or some wise aphorism -- would be featured on the copybook heading. Kipling was appalled by the counterintuitive modern thoughts of the day, and wrote the poem to point out how eons of wisdom and experience of humankind were hard-won, and he urged us not to embrace the depraved 'shortcuts' we began to take.
Like Kipling -- though lacking his talent -- I, too, urge us to take stock of where we are. Are we in open rebellion with morality and common-sense? Are we in a pitched war with reality? Have we become a Demonic America?
Take yourself back ten years, and (except for the last item, which is older) ask if you would have physically struck a future-you that claimed that any of the above would come to pass.
I know I would.
There can be no doubt. We are in the clutches of great evil. Common sense has been thrown aside for bizarre and absurd conclusions that fly in the face of 2000 years of civilization, and the ideals of decency that surrounded us.
I have not even discussed other forms of evil, such as the Administration's betrayals of Israel -- including an implied threat to shoot down Israeli aircraft that would have struck Iran's nuclear facilities. There are so many other examples, too numerous to list. It all comes together to inform us that this is Satan's time, a time of unbridled evil.
Back in the 1970's and 1980's, I used to listen Iran call us the 'Great Satan' with a combination of derision and bemusement.
Now, I actually wonder... is that what we have become?
Well even that can be done in a wrong or right way.
Thanks for the ping, Laz. Excellent work.
I don't know, Laz. Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.
If you would kind sir
He'll grow out of it.
>>The only answer is God.<<
God wiping out the entire population of the planet because of their turning away from Him is not unprecedented.
These are the End Times.
Yeah. He’s 19, and he’s really tall and really strong and really smart and really self-confident. He’s sure that, if everything falls apart, he’ll come out on top.
As a very amateur student of history, that is to say a “hardened realist,” these times aren’t unusually evil. Yes, we butcher people in large numbers with nary a thought. Yes immoral and amoral behavior is rampant. But for context, compare our society to the heyday of the roman empire. Talk about a truly evil bunch of bastards.
That said, even if these are unusually evil times, what good does that knowledge do us? So our society is super duper, extra special evil. Do we get some sort of prize? Do we get a new and improved circle of hell?
I’m of the opinion that what we do in identifying how an evil manifests itself and how we address it is much more important than qualitatively evaluating the relative level of evil outstanding.
In my view, most evil that we see seems to be expressed in caesars actions. Yet we debate all sorts of artifices to restrain caesar, or how X candidate or Y candidate would be a better representative of caesar, or how some pretty words on parchment will somehow restrain caesar.
The problem is perhaps a bit more simple than that.
Remind him that there is a bear trap waiting for every bear. :)
If that were true, we’d have no more bears.
:-)
Only the not yet caught. :}
Some must die in their beds ... er, dens.
Go for it, thanks for the compliment!
I would also definitely recommend reading up on Calvinism, because I basically cribbed that line from TULIP :)
Sometimes starvation.
Great post, Laz. Thanks. This government is most evil in the history of the republic for the reasons you state and
The treason to the republic is continuous, in-your-face, agenda-driven, agency-abetted, media-complicit, representative-enabled, ongoing
1/2 of the greatest crime couple in the history of the republic is running for president. The other, has been.
Also, American foreign policy is FUBAR.
Great post Laz. Keep looking up. This world will only get worse, but it also means that Satan’s time is short.
Tom would probably say, “And then, Valhalla!” or something like that.
For decades we [the God-fearing, middle-class populace] were so busy being bemused, we forgot to be alarmed. Put to sleep with our first world creature comforts, amusements and the carping between Catholics and Protestant sects while blaming the Jews for everything. MHO is - WWII should have been the wake-up call for future generations to see the workings of evil when it was up front personal and in your face aggressive. We did for awhile, then we began to forget. Not too dissimilar to our 9/11 attack. We have already begun to forget. Evil is again walking to and fro in the land. Solution? Simple...turn our face back to God. Embrace the 10 commandments as the rules of the road and the sermon on the mount as our moral compass. For those of us here, who are non-Christian, following the above two listed suggestions can’t be all that bad or wrong. They have a few thousand years of proven efficacy, after all; no matter who was the messager. The message goes back to the giver- God. Thanks Laz for your timely comments. Excellent as always.
