Electoral Map Is a Reality Check to Trump’s Bid
NY Times ^ | 04-02-2016 | JONATHAN MARTIN and NATE COHN

Donald J. Trump’s presidential candidacy has stunned the Republican Party. But if he survives a late revolt by his rivals and other leaders to become the party’s standard-bearer in the general election, the electoral map now coming into view is positively forbidding.

In recent head-to-head polls with one Democrat whom Mr. Trump may face in the fall, Hillary Clinton, he trails in every key state, including Florida and Ohio, despite her soaring unpopularity ratings with swing voters.

In Democratic-leaning states across the Rust Belt, which Mr. Trump has vowed to return to the Republican column for the first time in nearly 30 years, his deficit is even worse: Mrs. Clinton leads him by double digits in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Trump is so negatively viewed, polls suggest, that he could turn otherwise safe Republican states, usually political afterthoughts because of their strong conservative tilt, into tight contests. In Utah, his deep unpopularity with Mormon voters suggests that a state that has gone Republican every election for a half-century could wind up in play. Republicans there pointed to a much-discussed Deseret News poll last month, showing Mrs. Clinton with a narrow lead over Mr. Trump, to argue that the state would be difficult for him.

Please spare me the BS. Trump hasn’t even started on Hitlery yet, has-not-even-started on her. You cannot believe the Hillary supporters out there who have absolutely no idea of her criminal past, of Juanita Broaddrick, cattlegate, whitewater, filegate on and on and on. I meet them all the time, last week in fact where a Hillary supporter was blasting me for insinuating Monica Lewinsky was raped. I corrected her and said, “No I was referring to Juanita Broaddrick...Look it up” and she did and she was freakin out, then mentioned Bills other victims that Hillary threatened, she had absolutely no idea, said it completely made her rethink Hillary.

That’s what Trump is going to do, and on a “YUUUUGE” scale. There is no escape for HIllary, she is going to be absolutely exposed for the criminal grifter she is and she will be finished. NONE of the other candidates will do that, they don’t have the gonads. Only Trump will and as I stated many times: If Trump is not the nominee I absolutely guarantee you 100% Hillary will be next POTUS.

I do not see any Republican beating Hillary this fall. Not Trump. Not Cruz. Not Kasich. Now whomever they nominate.
In fact, I may not live long enough to see another Republican president. This party is too fractured. TO me, it looks more like the Whig party of 1852-1856 than anything else.
I have no idea what will replace it, but in the immortal words of Bones McCoy, “it’s dead. It’s dead Jim.”

I don’t think anybody is comparing Trump to Reagan the man; they’re comparing the elections.

Hillary can/t even rid herself of a doddering old socialist who needs a haircut who/s cleaning her clock all over the place.

Her only option is to veer left of Bernie.....oh wait.....she/d have to run as a Bolshevist.

Trump has everyone against him, the Dems, the GOPe, the Ministry of Propaganda, the illegal alien lobby, the muslim apologists, the LGBTQRSTUV

I still think if he gets the nomination he will take 35 states

Comparing Donald Trump to Ronald Reagan is blasphemy, or maybe just rank idiocy.

Yeah? Tell it to our Head Idiot, I'm sure he'd be happy to hear from you:

Trump is the biggest thing for America since Reagan. The Republicans should embrace him and run with it. And if they actually believed in their own conservative platform, they’d do it.

Trump’s positions are rebuilding the Reagan coalition. I don’t see this happening with Cruz. And any RINO they put in will be a sure-loser.

OH, and don't forget this from just yesterday:

Trump has a great shot at winning with the majority. Cruz has a tiny sliver of a chance. He should step aside.

[grey whiskers]Yeah, and Carter was a dead cinch against Reagan, too.

[NRx] Comparing Donald Trump to Ronald Reagan is blasphemy, or maybe just rank idiocy.

The comparison was between two election cycles not between two individuals.

I find being able to read and comprehend context is important when replying to what someone else has said. And doing so may help cut down on rudeness and make discussions more productive.

“Nationally, Mrs. Clinton leads Mr. Trump by about 10 percentage points in most head-to-head polls — the widest margin at this point in a presidential campaign in 16 years.”

Ok, NYT = DNC

The DNC is telling you all:

“Don’t vote for Trump he can’t win”

Is EVERYONE CLEAR ON THAT?

So do I.

And re the NYT’s, like all good lies, it’s what’s left out that’s important:

Cruz is even farther behind in all those polls than Trump is.

The reality is Trump can win FL and Cruz can’t.

You really don’t need to know anything more than that.

All the media would not be trying to drive Trump from the race if they didn’t KNOW HE CAN WIN. He was be ignored. End of story.

1980 was a different era in terms of the media and the attention given to politics. There weren't multiple 24-hour news channels, talk radio, online forums, articles, news, etc. Most voters knew little about what Reagan other than what was written about him in some papers, and a few ads. The debates were the first time most people actually got a decent chance to hear the guy. And once he overcame the "he's not going to nuke the planet" fear, he was in.

Trump is much better known to people at this point in the race that Reagan was, so reversing those numbers is a much taller mountain to climb. It is possible, but it won't be nearly as easy as it was for Reagan because peoples' opinions are more formed.
