Trump walks back statement on women being punished for abortion if procedure banned
Fox News ^ | 03/30/2016

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump quickly walked back a statement he made earlier Wednesday that if abortion were illegal in the United States, then women who have the procedure should be punished - saying later that only those who performed the procedure should be punished.

“If Congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal courts upheld this legislation, or any state were permitted to ban abortion under state and federal law, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman,” Trump said in a written statement. “The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb.”

Earlier, at a taped MSNBC town hall to be aired later Wednesday, Trump said if abortions were illegal, women should be held responsible.

Host Chris Matthews pressed Trump to clarify, asking him whether abortion should be punished and who ultimately should be held accountable.

“Look, people in certain parts of the Republican Party, conservative Republicans, would say, ‘Yes, it should,’” Trump said.

The candidate later put out a statement saying: “This issue is unclear and should be put back into the states for determination.”

Trump’s comments come at a time when he’s losing traction with women voters.

When asked specifically at the town hall what he thought, the New York businessman answered, “I would say it’s a very serious problem and it’s a problem we have to decide on. Are you going to send them to jail?”

First they say he said what he didn’t say; and then they repeat it and say he “walked it back”.

Hey, is the SCOTUS going to make abortion illegal again?

No? Didn’t think so

I detest this topic in the race for POTUS

“Something is going on with Trump. I don’t know what it is, but something is going on when Trump announces he will not keep his promise to support the Republican nominee.”

The other two Republicans said they also would not keep their promise to support the Republican nominee, so, according to your strange logic, something is going on with them.

I said right from the start I will not vote for Trump, I will vote the local under ticket. I can’t vote for a liberal in RINO clothing.

And just how do you Cruzers know this?

well first off we are not mindless drones, and second you never answered the Question: When sTrumpy announces he will run third party are you still going to vote for him?

So, if a wife gets an abortion, with no objection from the husband, why wouldn’t the husband be punished, as well?

Why is this never spoken about?

What would be an appropriate punishment?

“The other two Republicans said they also would not keep their promise to support the Republican nominee . . .”

That is not quite what Cruz said.

“That is not quite what Cruz said.”

He did say that.

And he also did not say that he would support whoever was the nominee.

And NBC, for one, said he said that, along with Kaisch and Trump.

“And he also did not say that he would support whoever was the nominee.”

That’s not the same as saying he would not support Trump. Perhaps too small a distinction to recognize when emotions are running high in the Trump camp where it must feel like 70 percent of the voters are opposed to their candidate.

Arguably, Cruz was released from any duty to support Trump
by Trump himself. Trump has pretty much disavowed Cruz’s support.

Simply unenforceable.

I've had two D+C's subsequent to natural miscarriages. There would be no way to prove whether they were or weren't induced abortions.

The unique thing about abortion as homicide ---- think about this, please --- is that the murder victim typically has no calcified bones, weighs only a couple of ounces, and is inside the murderer's body. Nobody even has to know of the murder-ee's existence unless the woman tells them. So: an unknown, unnamed, and undetected victim.

In a criminal prosecution, even if you don't know the murder-ee's name, you generally have to produce the murdered body as evidence. This would never happen with abortion, because most abortion victims can be run through the blenderizer and flushed down the sink or the toilet. Hence, the victim is not only unknown, unnamed and undetected, he is also permanently disappeared.

The abortionist possessing the instruments of abortion would not be indictable for that, since abortion tools --- dilators, curettes, suction machines, etc. --- are also used to remove the remains of miscarriage to prevent sepsis.

Who could testify that there had been an abortion at all? Only the doctor would know whether the unborn victim was in fact alive at the time of the procedure.

So, speaking for the prosecution: how do you legally hold the woman responsible for a crime nobody can prove?

I watched the full interview last night and for Donald to be a smart man he fell face first into the trap set by Matthews.

The abortion question is so basic to the Left, I don’t understand why Trump trys to just wing an answer to a question like that.

Your analogy is fine, but Trump really stepped in it this time.

The media, women’s groups, including the GOP will be using this to destroy him.

Trump can not just “walk away” from political “gotchas” as a good businessman can do with business contracts.

I am not a Cruz supporter and unless Trump can turn this around I will have to be among the millions staying home in November.

“Mrs. Clinton or the Bern would never, ever be asked a question remotely similar to this.”

Yes, and Trump should have known that by now.

Instead of focusing on the phony complaint about his guy Lewendowski, he should have had political experts advising him on being savvy and not falling into these Democrat set-ups and traps.

I suggest all have a look at Mrs Don-o posting history for the past 24 hours for a comprehensive understanding of why proposing to punish mothers who kill their unborn children is wrong headed on several levels.

Powerful.

If you don't think that women are victimized by abortion, then you don't understand anything about the industry we are trying to fight. I lied to women for eight years inside of Planned Parenthood. I coerced them into having abortions. I manipulated them. I took away their options. THAT IS ABORTION. It is abuse of women. It creates victims...the baby and the mother.

How can you have a ban with no penalty for breaking the ban?

Donald was right.

That's how I interpreted it also.

If running a red light is breaking the law then there has to be a penalty for doing so.

Why look further than post 150. She provides sufficient details as to why you couldn't possibly prosecute the woman who knowingly and willfully kills their unborn child. You can't prove it happened. So using her analysis, how do you prove that an abortion doctor performed the abortion? The only proof would be the word of the woman. Women who are actively seeking abortions aren't going to turn on the doctors who are preforming the abortion. As they face no consequences what so ever, they have no incentive to flip on the abortion doctors. Congratulations, your no consequence abortions for women does absolutely F*ckle to stop abortions.

Ah ha! The only way to do that, is to have the woman testify against the abortionist. There absolutely has to be an aggrieved woman.

Pre-Roe, abortion prosecutions were generally triggered by the appearance of an injured post-abortion woman in the ER. There are still injured post-abortion women in ER's --- legalization of abortion didn't make it any safer for the woman: antibiotics did that --- excerpt that now it doesn't lead to a criminal charges being brought against the abortionist. That has to change, because woman complainants are the key to nailing the abortion operators.

Alternatively, you don't have to proceed just by illegalizing abortion per se and then holding the doctor accountable for the deed. You can stamp out abortion by defunding, taxation and regulation.

You might note that state-level regulation has already shut down hundreds of clinics over the past 5 years or so. The most effective measures are those which require abortion facilitries to meet the same standards as other ambulatory surgical centers; and which require abortionists to have admitting privileges at a hospital in the same county (or, typically, within 20 miles.)

I could add lots more, but you get the just of it. Abortion does;t have to be illegal if it's un-profitable and un-do-able. And meanwhile, we conduct the kind of education and culture-change that makes it un-thinkable.
