Donald Trump would consider allowing Japan and South Korea to build their own nuclear arsenals instead of depending on the U.S. for their protection against North Korea and China, he said in an interview with The New York Times published Saturday.
Therell be a point at which were just not going to be able to do it anymore, Trump said, pointing at what he calls a severely depleted military.
We have nuclear arsenals which are in very terrible shape, he said. They dont even know if they work.
If the United States keeps on its path, its current path of weakness, theyre going to want to have that anyway with or without me discussing it, because I dont think they feel very secure in whats going on with out country, he said of Japan and South Korea.
Trump said the U.S. cannot always be the policeman of the world and said North Korea probably has nuclear weapons

No my comment had nothing to do with ours.
I was just saying Trump is up on things.
Completely so.
In fact, our decaying nuclear capability has been on my radar for some time.
Do you realize how Abe Shinzou has been throwing off those constitutional limits of late? And not for our benefit in particular. Also consider his involvement in a movement that seeks to bring back State Shinto.
The Japanese have become a first rate technological power, second to none in their expertise.
They have nuclear reactors; many in fact.
The idea that they could not make nukes quickly, if they want them, is nonsense.
Obama has been pushing for them to have nukes by his actions and his weakening of American military force.
I agree with your assessment.
Trump said the U.S. cannot always be the policeman of the world
“We shouldnt have to be.”
Shouldn’t is wishful thinking. Someone has to defacto maintain global stability. England did it for almost 200 years with pax Brittanica.
Then the U.S. took over for another 75 years, with a relatively less powerful Soviet Union playing a less dominant role.
A world that has multiple power centers is an unstable world.
Trump is scaring the right people. Refreshing.
Sandia National Labs In NM performs nuclear weapons testing. And as was demonstrated by the Navy and the Air Force over the last couple of months here in California, our Minuteman III ICBM’s and Trident sub-launched missiles. still work just fine.
But to say that would to destroy Trump’s narrative that, “everything is falling apart.”
How do you people know these things!! :)
i’m an expert on nothing.
i’m glad to know they are tested and are working.
The Japanese have a Friday nuke. If they need one, they’ll have it by Friday.
Ha! Most of it is local knowledge. Vandenberg AFB out here test launches our missiles, and a few months ago one of our subs off the coast launched a missile and it created a weird atmospheric phenomenon that scared the crap out of people all over the state. You should’ve seen the panic, people thought the aliens had come. LOL!
When was the last time we set off a nuclear test?
I think it was 1992.
That was 24 years ago.
So, we have not been updating our arsenals for 24 years.
I expect they still work, but they do have a shelf life. Hopefully we are replacing components on a regular basis.
The Test Ban Treaty has never gone into effect.
that’s funny :)
That's presidential. Not!
Other than computer simulations we have the Nuclear Ignition Facility to run experiments to test shelf life. We’re far ahead of everybody else.
Trump is completely up on things.
100%.
...
He’s hired advisors already.
The headline is INCREDIBLY misleading, undiplomatic in the extreme —probably deliberately.
“LETTING”...?
He said nothing of the sort. The word is designed to make it look like the US orders other countries around.
He was conceding that in the end they’ll have to go their own way.
Trumps a negotiator. He wants these countries to pay more and to stop taking advantage of the American people through the crooks in Washington who don’t care.
How “brilliant” is nuclear proliferation? Where would it end?
No one sent Trump a tweet?
