Trump would consider letting Japan and South Korea build nuclear arsenals

Donald Trump would consider allowing Japan and South Korea to build their own nuclear arsenals instead of depending on the U.S. for their protection against North Korea and China, he said in an interview with The New York Times published Saturday.

“There’ll be a point at which we’re just not going to be able to do it anymore,” Trump said, pointing at what he calls a “severely depleted” military.

“We have nuclear arsenals which are in very terrible shape,” he said. “They don’t even know if they work.”

“If the United States keeps on its path, its current path of weakness, they’re going to want to have that anyway with or without me discussing it, because I don’t think they feel very secure in what’s going on with out country,” he said of Japan and South Korea.

Trump said the U.S. cannot always “be the policeman of the world” and said North Korea “probably” has nuclear weapons

It is NOT his decision if they will or will not. That has to be made by their leaders & in their own time.

“Trump said the U.S. cannot always “be the policeman of the world”

We shouldn’t have to be.

Trump continues to frighten the crap out of the establishment ... and makes the people of America feel safe and secure

He is either a great tactician or the scariest man on the planet

it would be against their constitution. I lived in japan. they’re pretty hysterical on that point . . . understandable, being the only country on earth that has ever been nuked. twice.

Logical—With China and North Korea with them—they must. Good idea from Trump—once again.

I’ve advocated remedying the NK issue via threatening China with a nuclear Japan/SK for a long time. It’s a strong play.

Actually, the Korean War was never ended. Hostilities were suspended; they’re technically still at war.

As for Japan, they are a sovereign nation bound by only by their own Constitution, which they are modifying to allow for offense, not just defense. Like others, I’d be disappointed if Tokyo doesn’t already have nukes.

I would like to see Japan and Taiwan nuclear armed as a counter to China. South Korea should have tac nukes for their artillery - either in the chamber or in the turrets.

The PLA would think twice before crossing the strait to Taiwan, and the Norks need to know their first salvo of arty will be met with the end of their nation.

Japan has proven their integrity and honor, it is time for them to be full partners in their defense. I realize their constitutional limits, but the armistice was long ago.

“Ten to one says the Jap-a-nese already have them.”

As far back as the eighties it was said that while Japan did not have a bomb, they had the components to assemble 5-6 of them in a week.
