We should stop buying from the Saudis out of principle. We need to be energy independent, period.

The Department of Energy was established with the intent of working towards energy independence. As with any other bureaucracy, it was determined that it would not be able to justify its existence if it solved the problem it was established to solve, so it became a matter of its own survival to manage the problem rather than actually do anything about it.
Establishing energy independence would not only be a good thing in and of itself, but would also make it much harder for a big chunk of the bureaucracy to perpetuate itself.

Great idea. When the House of Saud falls to Islamic extremists, life will be good again. I can’t imagine what extremist would do with billions of dollars. Probably they will use it for humanitarian projects.

The ONLY thing that Trump would have to do is trash the Low-sulfur requirement, that FORCES American Companies to import Saudi/Venezuelean oil instead of using American oil for gasoline.
End of Saudi oil purchases....

Golly gee whiz, doesn't he know how much better off we are exporting our oil and buying Saudi oil?
He must have missed yet another memo.

I thought that it had been shown on FR in the past that there is no way to effectively do that because unless every other country stopped purchases of Saudi oil it would still end up in the world market and in American purchases.
And what would Trump do about oil the Refineries that the Saudis own, nationalize them? I am all for holding the Saudis accountable, but is this just more attractive talk from Trump that really hasn't a chance in reality?

We've got a lot of sweet shale oil in this country, so why are buying oil from our enemies? Put American oil producers, American royalty owners and their American workers back to work, help spin-off American business that depend on them. Just buy enough from the bedouins to keep gas prices affordable.

There was a news article last week about the Saudis (Saudi Aramco)and Shell ending a partnership in which they had a couple of refineries here in the US. The Saudis took control of a refinery that processes mostly imported oil.
It said they are interested in buying more refineries here in the US. What are the chances they try to use oil from the United States at these refineries, and why would we allow Saudi Aramco to have a refinery here in the first place? Crap like this has to stop.

That said he’d need to also couple it with offsetting the balance between the shia and Sunnis...dear leader 0bama has altered that.
