Anti Trump Infiltrators are moving into delegate positions in states Donald Trump has; either won by winner take all,or by proportionally awarded by percentage. This is being orchestrated by GOP County Chairmen, primarily in and out of County conventions. Rules differ by State and County with some delegates being appointed and others elected, so one size does not fit all cases. Here's the rub: Although all delegates are bound to vote for the delegates on the FIRST ballot. After that they can vote to change convention Rules and vote for any candidate you want. If you do not have a copy of the Convention Rules covering the Permanent Rules for 2012 and 2014, print a cop out! on the last page, see "RULE NO.42 Temporary Rules". This is the last rule in the document. It reads: " Upon the adoption of the report of the Convention Committee on Rules and Order of Business, Rule Nos. 26-42 shall constitute the Standing Rules for this convention, and the TEMPORARY RULES FOR THE NEXT CONVENTION (2016)." Bold print and parenthesis mine. This sort of maneuver is not new, but the only defense against it can only be done on the local. county, state level-where you live. We must jump in to this delegate selection process now, even if you support Cruz, or we could after 10 ballots and total war over seating legitimate delegates, find we have President Kasich. This move is planned and implemented by the desperate GOP National Establishment. Thank God. As I write this I here Rush saying the same. Please take this seriously and give all you can to prevent this. Print out the Convention Rules now and see for your self.

I am saying how it should be done, not how all states do it. States have establishments, too. That doesn’t involve states rights, it involves corruption and an old boys network.
I agree that Trump needs to pay attention to all the ins and outs of delegate selection in the various states. Roger Stone, a Trump supporter, has been vocal about it lately, and I don’t doubt Trump is working on how he will handle it.
Do you really think the RNC is competent to plan and execute a strategy across most states to select only those delegates that would vote the way the RNC would want them too? In order to pull that off, the RNC would have to suborn 20 or 30 state parties and five or six hundred state delegates. I personally don’t think the RNC could organize a church social let alone a conspiracy as vast as that.
“Trumps ability to pick his own delegates depends upon the state. Here in Alabama, you can vote for a candidate or you can vote for a delegate pledged to a specific candidate. Its a states rights thing. Trump doesnt get to write the rules.
BTW, in 2012, this website was filled with Ron Paul supporters who were scheming to select delegates that were secretly Paul supporters. These delegates had no intention of voting for anyone other than Paul regardless of the popular vote in their state. Was that right?”
Unfortunately, I think the rules are pretty similar to AL in most other states. No matter which candidates win what delegates, they are selected at some sort of state convention from a pool of precinct/regional delegates. The pool of delegates is determined by who shows up to be involved with the party. In many precincts, there are not enough people to fill all the delegate openings.
Here in MN, the people who run for delegate (and alternate delegate) tend to be far more conservative than the GOPe, but they are still party people. I’m not sure how they view Trump, but I would think many of them not too favorably.
So these delegates are bound on the first ballot, then can vote for whomever they want. To me, this is a huge roll of the dice for everyone involved, and if I were Trump, I’d do everything possible to get to 1237 and avoid this scenario.
My daughter and I were at a Washington State caucus. About 24 of the 27 delegates were Cruz supporters. We also will have a primary that might go Trump or Cruz. If Trump wins the primary the delegates must vote for Trump. If Trump doesn’t make the count at the national convention after the first ballot, then WA delegates can vote for whoever they want.
I was educated by another freeper that some states lock in the delegates for the first two ballots, some have to have a 2/3 majority in order to change, etc.
Exactly and a warning: “Don’t forget who won the primary. If you do, don’t bother coming home.”
Also, let state legislators know that if any shenanigans go on at the convention, it will cost them votes.
Because The GOP Establishment is packing the state delegations with their own people to stop both Cruz and Trump on the first ballot, causing many ballots to be manipulated for someone of their choosing. Unfortunately this is power politics and it has happened before.
We must oppose this exactly so we can vote our conscience for those candidates we actually voted for in the primary.
Which the Establishment would be delighted with. They have nothing to lose by making this a war of attrition once the Convention starts. Best to prevent it by working with the officer in the grass roots of the Party; Including Precinct Committee persons,Party officers elected at your County Convention up to County Chairman. These are the people who vote or appoint forward the delegates to the State Convention. These people then elect or appoint delegates to The National Convention at Cleveland.
1. Michigan at large delegates are bound 14-3-3 for Trump, Cruz, and Kasich. The Congressional delegates are bound 1 each for Cruz,Trump, and Kasich. The delegates are bound on the first ballot. If nobody has a majority, then they are free agents.
2. County Convention precinct delegates vote for delegates to state conventions. His county uses a secret ballot. Other counties use slates and floor votes.
3. State delegations vote for RNC delegates. Every district is different. He expects a favorable delegation for Cruz in his district as a lot of the activists in his area support Cruz.
4. As far as "will of the people goes" he said that the will of the people is split among several candidates. He's not going to rig it for or against Trump or anyone else. "The precinct delegates vote for state delegates and state delegates pick RNC delegates. If others don't like it, they can run for precinct delegate. They could have run for it in 2014 if they thought it was that important."
That is indeed the bottom line.
What we have is a bunch of complainers who are ignorant, arrogant, and lazy. And they seethe with anger at everyone except themselves.
Guess what, people who show up at neighborhood meetings and STICK TO IT up the line eventually get their way.
What I’m suggesting is that when someone wins 20 delegates to the national convention, he should select who “his” delegates are, and those are the people who go. It’s not that complicated, unless one wants to be obtuse.
That may be your preferred procedure. But the rules for selecting delegates has been established for a long time in most states, and it is incumbent upon the candidate to know the rules and plan accordingly.
My comment addressed how it should be. The RNC makes the rules for the party, and it can address what they should be. We will need to do that once Trump's shareholder revolt against the Board of RNC, Inc., comes to fruition. We will need to fire every single RNC dunderhead and replace them with accomplished people who would rather be doing something valuable, but who decide to help save their country. Then, we can address how party primaries work.
The way the RNC handles this convention will also determine whether they proceed with Trump and win a landslide victory, or fight for their privileged crony jobs and elect Hillary.
Are you GOPe? For Hillary? Then why fight it? Now is the time for everyone who cares to defeat the socialists to come together behind Trump. Cruz is done. Kasich never was even in the running. And the only person who can win the nomination other than Trump is Hillary.
The RNC makes the rules for the national party, not for the state parties.
No, I am not GOPe, but no, I am not coming together behind Trump. He has not won the nomination yet, and I will continue to oppose him as long as possible.
Rule 40 stands on the way delegates are selected and put forward through the County and State convention to the National Convention, including alternate delegates. All officers who serve as Committee heads must be elected by a 50% vote of the conventions in order up to the National.
The Temporary rules passed in the last Convention are in effect for 2016 until a new chairman is nominated, or selected, and all new committees for the new Convention vote for and/or changed a 50% vote of new Officers elected by the new delegates.
With Ted Cruz at 411 delegates and competitive in 6 of 10 Proportionally awarded delegate states, and 5 out of 11 Winner Take All states (as of 3/21). It will be very close for Trump, unless he wins 54% of all 21 states left,or takes all Winner Take All states. With this the case, Kasich, now with 143 delegates, become a factor if Trump winds up within that range short, as Kasich will be picking up delegates too.
This is what the Party Hacks are hoping for, and that the delegates free to vote for whoever, after the first ballot, will wear down after many ballots and settle on an Establishment compromise(Kasich) denying both trump and Cruz the nomination.
If this can’t be headed off before the National Convention convenes; then Cruz and Trump better have made a deal to combine their votes on the first ballot for what is agreeable between them.
He could if he gets 54% of the remaining 10 states awarding delegates proportionately and 50% of Winner Take All states, Including California. If Kasich accumulates an additional 100 delegates from the Proportionate states and 3 out of 11 winner Take All states(including California it really could be close.
I hope Cruz and Trump put together a deal for the first ballot, if it looks like, to them, the delegations have been packed by the Party Hacks.
Thank God for your work Liz, because this is going to be a barn burner. We have been through this before. What the Hacks want to do is get this past the first ballot by packing the state delegations and cause a war of attrition through endless ballot; then insert Kasich as a “Compromise Candidate” that a weary Convention will accept.
Once the Temporary Rules are voted on by this conventions officer and made permanent, anything could happen. The Hacks don’t care. They just want to keep power and control of the Party, even if the next Convention meets in a phone booth.
Opposing him at this point makes you, by definition, GOPe. Enjoy your new club!
Sorry, no. There are a lot of Constitutional conservatives that oppose Trump, and trying to portray everyone that opposes Trump as "establishment" simply removes any meaning from the term.
