Cruz opens huge lead over Trump in Utah (53% Cruz, 29% Kasich, 11% Trump)

Ted Cruz has a significant lead over his two Republican challengers in the days leading up to the Utah caucuses — and yes, that includes Donald Trump.

A Y2 Analytics survey released on Saturday shows Cruz with the support of 53 percent of likely Republican caucus-goers. If Cruz were to get at least 50 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s caucus, he’d capture all 40 of the state’s GOP delegates.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich came in second in the poll with 29 percent, and Trump followed him at 11 percent.

The survey also found that 64 percent of Utah Republicans believe Trump will weaken the Republican Party as its nominee. Among those who said they wouldn't support Trump in the Utah caucuses, a majority say they would be unable to vote for the GOP front-runner in November should he be the party's nominee.

Cruz has been campaigning in the state and won the endorsement of a close colleague, Utah Sen. Mike Lee. He also earned the support of 2012 nominee Mitt Romney, who told his Facebook followers on Friday that he was voting for Cruz in an effort to deny Trump a majority of delegates ahead of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Trump, meanwhile, has launched a last-minute TV ad campaign against Cruz, spending roughly $160,000 on TV ads in the state ahead of Tuesday’s contest.

Trump continued his assault on Cruz Friday night when he again accused the Texas senator of dishonesty and said “Mormons don’t like liars.” A majority of Utah residents identify as Mormon — around 62 percent, according to the latest U.S. Census figures.

So now we know why Ted Cruz so improbably paired up with Glenn Beck. He was pursuing the Mormon vote.

(53% Cruz, 29% Kasich, 11% Trump)

...At the 2010 census, Salt Lakes population was 75.1% White
22.3% of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race...

Nothing a fresh multi-cultural diverse influx of additional immigrants from Cuba, Syria or Somalia can fix.

After.: (53% Trump, 29% Kasich, 11% Cruz, )

Bye, Bye mormon Salt Lake beauty

I don't really know what to make of the polling there. The Mormons may have solid enough unity to convince 53% of the voters to support Cruz and only 11% Trump. The Kasich support is inexplicable outside of Ohio or the democrat part.

The only other thing I'd point out is that 53% for Cruz is a high expectation to live up to and will be looked at as poll manipulation if he doesn't reach that when the vote is tallied.

That can only harm Cruz going forward and he doesn't need more of that.

Mormons went door to door, in pairs, for many of my years.

I've always said the same thing "Oh, you're the ones that can have a bunch of wives. Now, please leave."

Trump says he believes in God, but has no personal relationship with Christ, no come to Jesus moment.

He thinks works will get him into heaven, the Bible is clear on that, works with out Jesus won’t get you there.

He belittles those who do. http://wiserepublic.com/donald-trumps-sad-trashing-christian-redemption/

Most Conservative voting Record, CRUZ has the Most Conservative voting record you can check. I really don’t understand why Trump is considered as he’s never held office so you have no voting history, nor voted in the past 6 primaries, has a big history of a BIG DEM Donor Including MILLIONS to the Clintons, even while on the GOP ticket running for President he donated to VA Dem GUN GRABBER GUV. https://www.conservativereview.com/2016-presidential-candidates

Sure. Cruz vastly outperformed his polls numbers last week, losing five of five.

Don’t know what you’re smoking Joe.

The Founders wouldn’t understand why you thought that is a requirement, since they did not.

I see anti-Mormon bigotry is alive and well here at FR in the Trumpbot crowd. Sad and disgusting.

Get a copy of the Masonic Bible and then look at the LDS version. It is copied, pictures, etc., hence the Mormon prohibition being a Mason, Scottish Rite/Templar, or Shriner.

The media will have a field day if Cruz beats Trump by such a large margin. They’ll mislead saying Trump is faltering due to his racism and instigating violence at his rally’s, which we all know is not true.

Now, if Cruz wins Utah and Arizona, there my be heartburn in the Trump Camp. Otherwise, any Cruz victory should be countered in Arizona by Trump.

In fact, if Cruz gets more than 50%, and Trump wins Arizona, the delegates for the day goes ~58% Trump ~42% Cruz and 0% Kasich. Which one keeps their trajectory to the nomination?

And if Cruz doesn't get to 50%, then THAT will now be the news story, because the delegate count after the day would look something like ~65% Trump ~20% Cruz and ~15% Kasich. That would be devastating. For right now in the race, Cruz really really really needs Utah. Not even factoring in the Rule 40(b) stuff, where Cruz is stalled currently, I think at 4. He needs to move the needle.
