Why Ted Cruz Could Win the GOP Nomination. In 2020.

[SNIP]

The argument against Cruz is that he’s obnoxious. His colleagues don’t like him,and exit polls show he doesn’t do nearly as well among moderate and somewhat conservative voters as he does among hardcore conservatives....That’s why, when my colleague Jamelle Bouie was betting on Cruz,I put my money on Rubio...I stand refuted.Cruz hasn’t overcome the Trump wave, but he has proved that in an angry party, his organization, discipline, and message can beat a broadly appealing rival.

Republicans who vote for Trump in 2016,only to see him abandoned by elements of their party and defeated in the general election, would be at least as angry in 2020.The notion that his loss would teach them not to support Cruz has two glaring flaws. One flaw is that the desertion of Trump by the GOP establishment,or at least part of it,would confound the equation.A Trump rout wouldn’t prove that Republicans are better off nominating a candidate like George W. Bush, because the right would be able to point to a difference between 2000 and 2016:the establishment’s betrayal of Trump.

The other problem is that Cruz isn’t Trump.Trump’s conservatism is visceral and stylistic....Cruz’s conservatism is ideological. He cares about tax cuts, deregulation, and social-issue litmus tests...If Trump loses the general election, they won’t conclude that their brand of conservatism has been refuted. They’ll conclude, with some justice, that their brand of conservatism hasn’t been tried.

Cruz has been making this argument for months. In speeches, debates, interviews, and ads,he has painted Trump as a donor to liberals,a socialist on health care, and a squish on Planned Parenthood. Presumably,Cruz will hammer these differences all the way to the convention. And then,if Trump loses the election,Cruz will take up where he left off. He’ll raise more money, build out his field organization, and lock up support in the Tea Party and on the religious right. He’ll tell hardline Republican audiences what they want to hear:that Trump lost because he wasn’t a “consistent conservative.”..

look at Cruz’s numbers in in the finished primaries of Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Virginia, and Michigan and tell me again how a guy who is running on nothing more than I’m the most far right wing guy to run for President EVER is going to be elected in a general election?

he is the best candidate still running to defeat Hillary.

No, in reality he has no chance of beating Hillary; quite depressingly, the best bet would be the execrable Kasich...

The truth about Trump is that he’s on the record saying he supports eminent domain for private use. He uses the same arguments libs use to steal from our wallets and purses... that he can use your property better than you can, but what it comes down to is he can make bigger promises to the city council about how much more revenue they can pocket from his plan than from yours.

You really can’t get more pinko than forcing people out of their homes, and it matters not that you pay for it because the grievance is the use of force, not the sale price. Iindividual property rights are at the very root of our constition.

Cruz’s problem is not just that he is not liked. It is that he is a globalist.

And he’s a lawyer...just what we need, another lawyer at the head of a government alrady clogged by obscure legalese...

Cruz is an insider. After the Sea Island CONfad Jeb Bush brought the plan that was hatched to the 3 stooges on the day of the debate.

Shortly after that Neil Bush, Jeb’s brother joined the Cruz campaign as his campaign finance manager. Neil you may recall was up to his eyeballs in the corruption at Silverado Savings and Loan scandal where over $1.6 billion was stolen, his daddy got him out of the mess.

Glenn Beck, Mitt Romney support him. The PAC to stop Trump is run by a Romney campaign aid.

There is one factor not considered here. Hillary wins in 2016 and by 2020 there are 15-20 million new voters-new citizens primarily immigrants from the third world mostly arrived illegally. 12-15 million will vote for Hillary and every other Democrat running for office.

They need to make that amendment, the NBC was codified into law about 100 years ago. It states that a child born to a non-citizen is NOT an NBC

So you now realize how bad George W Bush was to have used eminent domain to build Ranger Stadium? And that Ted Cruz is wrong to support the Keystone XL Pipeline?

He certainly has made some choices that I consider unhelpful. Embracing Glenn Beck’s endorsement is one; bringing in Neil S&L Bush as a finance guy (no less) is another. They are indicative of a drive and want so strong it is willing to overlook the obvious.

However, my belief is that Ted made his biggest mistake in going after Trump instead of taking down the rival that did him the most damage - Marco Rubio. Instead, he waited until the last minute (actually after) to attack Rubio even ganging up on Trump with Rubio in that debate that did neither of them any good.

Now, it’s a matter of accumulation of former Rubio voters and playing a game of catch up which he has effectively lost. He lost the game when he lost that unified “solid south” he so depended on in his early campaign - Trump took them.

A poll yesterday shows that Cruz picked up 2%, Kasich 1% and Trump 10-12% points of the Marco FoamBoy voters.

How has Cruz moved to the middle?

Neil Bush.
Mitt Romney.
Lindsay Graham.

Thanks.....it was never an absolute given that Cruz would pick up ALL of the votes from candidates that Trump vanquishes. That was just wishful thinking. Frankly, that’s why you are seeing threads like this one “unite or die” and “we can still win in 2020 after Hillary’s first term when Trump loses the general.” 100% wishful thinking.

What all this does tell me, however, is that there are those in the Cruz faction who will never give up and who will NEVER vote for a nominated candidate Trump. It’s just that simple.

The glaringly huge hole in your argument is Kasich, who continues his campaign merely to frustrate a Trump-Cruz fight for delegates.
