CHICAGO (Reuters) - U.S. Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Saturday blamed organized "thugs" for protests that shut down his Chicago rally and said the incident had "energized America."

Trump, who will be at a campaign rally in Dayton, Ohio, on Saturday, canceled the Chicago event on Friday after it turned chaotic, with scuffles breaking out between protesters and backers of the real estate magnate.

"The organized group of people, many of them thugs, who shut down our First Amendment rights in Chicago, have totally energized America!" Trump said on Twitter.

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects freedom of speech and assembly. The Chicago rally came ahead of five primary elections on Tuesday, including contests in Ohio and Illinois.

I had hope through a couple of years ago that the US could have an amicable divorce, with the two cultures within the not-so-sovereign border of the USA sorting themselves out for the most part peacefully.

I no longer hold out any hope that events will unfold that way. There will be a second civil (or perhaps better to call it the 3rd North American revolution) before all is said and done. I’ve become convinced of it.

Fox was covering his rally today from Missouri and he was as smarmy as ever. A real detestable kind of guy. But this tells me that Cruz is really only looking at Mizzou realistically for Tuesday.

Or, I suppose it is possible that you have not listened the Cruz' ENTIRE statement. But I doubt that.

Many of Ted Cruz's supporters have switched to Trump as a result of reading Cruz's own words.

There are dozens of examples to be found on this forum.

Ted Cruz is the one who is driving People into the Donald Trump camp in droves, without any help from Trump supporters.

Ted Cruz has been exposed as an unprincipled, naked political opportunist. 3/11/16 will be remembered as his Waterloo.

“Closer ever closer comes the Social War.”

Not a good idea to keep poking an armed population with a sharp stick, but that’s exactly what the left (and now the gov’t and both political parties) have been doing to the law abiding citizens for years. Actually, decades.

Not sure if they mean to make us snap, or if they’re so blinded by the thin facade of power, that they believe they can crush us somehow. It’s a monumentally foolish thing they’re doing. The peasants won’t take it forever. The people are like a bone dry prairie, that once ignited, cannot be extinguished by any means.

Wow...

One tepid statement of “responsibility” followed by 4 full sentences of blaming the victim...

Why don’t we try it this way, SBG:

“Yes, the criminal act was the rape and the blame for that is with the rapist. BUT, every person makes choices and I can’t help but think that if she had not been out by herself late at night, wearing provocative clothing, and had been drinking that this whole thing might never have happened.”

Because that’s the way I’m reading what Cruz said...

Then you didn’t really listen to what Cruz actually said. You heard what you wanted to hear, and then drew a false conclusion.

As I pointed out, and as is obvious by simply reading recent threads, Ted Cruz has lost many of his supporters who have read exactly what Cruz said.

Are these (former) Cruz supporters "hearing what they wanted to hear"?

No. They saw Ted Cruz show de facto solidarity with organized Left-wing lawbreakers who were engaged in a criminal conspiracy to infringe on the Right of the People to Peaceably Assemble.

Ted Cruz is directly responsible for alienating some of his (former) supporters. He's been exposed as a naked opportunist, and he deserves all the blowback he's receiving from his own (former) supporters...

Cruz gets uglier and uglier. It has to be what he’s saying and how he’s saying it.

Conservatives have no effective leaders and are not organized. The left has been working for years to infiltrate and ultimately control all major social, political and religious institutions. The left has grasped the important concept that violence is sometimes necessary in maintaining power. All one hears from conservatives is a series of platitudes such as we won’t sink to their level in short PASSIVITY! Do nothing.

Trump did say something provocative at ONE rally, in a moment of heated passion. If I recall, it was prompted by a disruptor who had to be forcibly removed from the event. Apparently, a Trump supporter took a swing at the guy, as well.

The problem I have with that, isn’t that Trump said it. I completely understand his exasperation with these protesters trying to shut him down.

My problem with it is the fact that the press, Donald’s campaign rivals, the anarchist left, and the entire political establishment, have seized upon that one lone outburst as a justification to declare intellectual and physical War upon him - and by extension, us.

The thugs and their backers aren’t trying to disrupt Trump’s campaign rallies. They’re attempting to stop The People from reclaiming their own country.

It just occurred to me that Ted may lose some high profile endorsements over this. The press, ever eager to pit one Republican against another, will quickly begin shoving microphones in the faces of public figures who’ve pledged their support for Ted.

I wonder how many of them will back away from him, and how many will double down? There’s a huge moral test coming up, starting Monday.

Trumps open insults from his campaign has totally polarized America and split the GOP. You insult poeple, then get but hurt when they treat you in like kind, you demonstrate that you are not the strong man you are playing. You are just another bully whining about a black eye.

Trump needs to take his own medicine like a man.

Someone needed to begin openly calling out the left, the media, and the Washington elites for the backstabbing traitorous whores they are. Thank God, Donald Trump showed up and did just that.

These vermin have been eating out our substance and making war on us for decades now. It’s high time we stopped being ‘civil’ about being trod underfoot by the barbarian horde, and began pushing back with the righteous fury that such a long train of mistreatment deserves.

Some people are just cowards who project their own fears onto braver, more worthy men, who do possess the courage and willingness to fight back.

I was just telling my son the other day about how when AOL came out in the 90’s our subscriptions were for 30 minutes of internet time or something ridiculous like that, on a 28.8 modem. We had this talk as we were streaming the new Bond movie over Flixster.

Napster used to bounce around mp3 tunes which people thought was super cool....back in the day
There days 4gb files as in movies get streamed and bounced with ease. Blue Ray files of 25GB are no big deal either I suppose
My first modem was 56.6. The 28.8 ones were getting phased out
