Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said on Friday that Donald J. Trump bore responsibility for creating an environment that encourages violence at his events.
Speaking to reporters at a local Republican dinner outside Chicago, where Mr. Trump had just canceled a rally amid fierce confrontations between his supporters and protesters, Mr. Cruz began by saying that the protesters who took violence into their own hands were responsible for the episode.
But in any campaign, responsibility starts at the top, Mr. Cruz continued. And when you have a campaign that disrespects the voters, when you have a campaign that affirmatively encourages violence, when you have a campaign that is facing allegations of physical violence against members of the press, you create an environment that only encourages this sort of nasty discourse.
Mr. Cruz invoked the protests and violent police run-ins at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and predicted that future skirmishes were likely.
When the candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence, to punch people in the face, the predictable consequence of that is that it escalates, Mr. Cruz said. And today is unlikely to be the last such instance.

“You all must be terrified that if Trump is elected many of your corrupt representatives and senators will be out of a job.”

The Trump crowd just does not get it! We are not supporting our corrupt local reps...most of them should be thrown out! We are “terrified” of Trump himself...he behaves like a spoiled child, he talks like a rich, arrogant A-hole; he was a Democrat-funding Liberal most of his life; he appears to be a closet racist; he’s a brutish CEO who only knows how to give orders to his frightened underlings; etc; etc...IT’S THE DONALD!
He’s a total JOKE! He does not have the demeanor, knowledge, or experience to be POTUS!
You get the last word LSD
He said no such thing.
Making it up as you go.
Well, your niece now sees who the violent Left most wants to shut down. What did that do for her decision?
“Losing 200,000 on his Twitter is an example.”
I was enormously disappointed in Cruz last night. Did he really think he was going to attract BLM voters by being their useful idiot?
That is Quo Vadis Green, BLM organizer.
So, if I wear a mini skirt and I get raped, I deserve it, right?
I think you are probably a coward and afraid of strong men. This gives you cover from having to fight back, and I get it. Just don’t lie and say this is about hateful speech. There is no such thing. You either believe Trump can say what he wants or you don’t.
There is no middle ground.
Yes, I saw the video. Good for the 80 year old who threw the punch! He was arrested and will be going through all kinds of hell for giving the a** what he deserved but I salute the 80 year old not the disrupter. Trump did not tell him to do it... nobody did and it was an isolated incident, the first that I know of in how many months of massive campaign events? So if that is the best you've got Charles I think that you are grasping at straws.
“I stated out supporting Cruz above Trump.”
Likewise. I donated to Cruz’s campaign immediately after he announced, then gradually evolved to an “either-or” position re Cruz/Trump. When Cruz came out to speak last night I expected a full-on defense of the First Amendment. I was so taken aback that I had to replay what he actually said several times before it sunk in.
I believed he was our firm Constitution supporter. I gave him the benefit of the doubt of things being said about him during this election cycle. But hearing his own words explaining he supported the putting down of the right of speech of those you don’t agree with just blew me away.
I am too— there was a way to say this that would not be this appeasing to the anti-conservatives and libs in the media coddling the scum protestors and ex-ACORN loonies, and this was not the way to say it.
For example: from the stage, trump has expressed his desire to “punch” people, and transferred that to his audience, and this sets the stage. Follow that commentary by saying: there are always going to be confrontations, you have to plan for that.
And leave it there. The debate boy nerd is focusing OCD style on this and not realizing how this comes across. One can be literally correct and be wrong how one is heard by others. Though no doubt sincere.
What's wrong with that? They're not fleeing "Christian oppression" They're just another layer of murdering-rapist/wife-beating filth, pretending to run away from other murdering-rapist/wife-beating filth.
If they want to live here, they should swear-off the murderous anti-freedom cult from which they are "seeking refuge" and become civilized non-moslem Americans.
What about his wrong? That's an incomplete sentence.
“New York Times. Just saying. The single most influential leftist newspaper, on the entire planet.”
You are correct, but even a stopped clock is correct twice a day.
It is also extra maddening how all of these so called ‘news’ shows are playing this up against Trump. They are even saying how wrong he is for telling his supporters to ‘hit back’. Hit back is self-protection. Why is it these fools expect people to not respond back to being hit on with hitting back? Are we really expected to curl into the fetus position and cower down? Or run away? I have a feeling this is the thing that is going to cinch the election for Trump. He lets you know you are not expected to cower to bullies and neither will he.
These folks couldn't be TrusTED. Not Little Marco, not Ted, not iCarly. They simply can not be trusted to not subvert the campaign in the general election and eventually the Trump Presidency. They need to do whatever they do outside.
I don't think Kasich has burned any bridges. He is welcome by attrition at this point.
“Yet there are Freepers who are still orgasmic over him.”
There’s less than a dozen of the “orgasmic” ones, and they’re the paid Cruz-trolls who post the hundreds of the anti-Trump posts here each day.
Most of the legitimate Cruz supporters here are not too happy with Ted supporting the anti-free-speech lefist-anarchist mob; in fact, Cruz lost tons of supporters here yesterday because of that.
exactly! NYT Liberal LEFTEST =FALSE TITLE.. a lie.
Ted Cruz did NOT BLAME TRUMP for the disturbances.
He BLAMED the BLM...
Ted CRUZ DID say Trump tends to encite the left when tossing statements to the crowds like “ I’d like to punch them in the face, I’d like to this, Id like to that...
It’s WRONG when BECK says it... and it’s WRONG when TRUMP SAYS IT.
I wish though that Cruz would come out against the statement Beck made. That would have helped him.
He REPEATED to the ENTIRE crowd , using the woman’s words to justify him saying it. He twisted it just like a narcisstic man would do.
