The Donald Trump campaign on Friday night canceled a rally slated to take place in an arena at the University of Illinois at Chicago after protesters overwhelmed the event. The campaign cited safety concerns, given the tense confrontations between Trump protesters and supporters.

After the cancellation was announced, fights started to break out at the UIC Pavilion, CBS News' Sopan Deb reports.

Ahead of Trump's arrival, hundreds of demonstrators lined up outside the arena to protest the Republican presidential front-runner. Large groups of Trump opponents also occupied multiple sections inside the arena. The mix of Trump supporters and opponents created a tense atmosphere, and finally a spokesperson for the campaign announced the event was canceled....

He’s been tearing the masks off of anti Americans right and left, great and small.

Nobody else would have done it.

Now everyone in America will slowly learn how corrupt Chi town is and who lives there(Ayers, commie groups, etc)

The three amigos running against him have revealed themselves too.

I will be very surprised if Trump is not the nominee.

I am following all the candidates. I pay close attention to what they are saying.

Now, the fact is that he said he wanted to punch a protester in the face. It’s on video. He asked his supporters to “take down” anyone they think might be threatening him. That’s certainly at least not discouraging violence.

He’s made similar statements, as well.

Again, we have the video.

Cruz did NOT blame Donald Trump.

A lot of violence seems to follow Trump. He has personally threatened demonstrators and asked his supporters to punch them out. His campaign manager attacked a reporter simply for asking a question. His supporters have violently attacked minority protesters. But somehow, that has nothing to do with him.

So what do you call that?

Cruz says the responsibility for the event belongs with the protesters. How is that blaming Trump?

Which is why it was sold out.

Cruz used the old leftie trick of starting by stating blame belongs with the criminals, but then saying Trump is really responsible for creating a “climate of violence”. Typical sleazy double talk, just like Obama. I used to like Cruz, he’s revealed himself as a complete scumbag.

Apparently most of the Trump supporters in the audience were from out of town...the agitators were local: ...”Most of the Trump supporters, being suburbanite or small town white people from outside of Chicago...” See: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3408183/posts

Hmm I was actually there...and I was next to 2 sets of chicagoans in line—in front and behind me...they were Trump supporters...

I don’t think it is completely accurate to say that Trump supporters were White suburbanites...There were plenty of non-whites wearing Trump gear, and they looked local.

Also, I don’t know how many suburbanites came in to go to the rally...Altho I know the area well as I was on the UIC campus frequently for one of my kids’ sports—I know some people who don’t like to drive in the CIty and some were scared away by the threat of thugs.

You are probably right...I am just thinkin that it would not have gone down the way it did in Peoria. Chicago is to Peoria as Los Angeles/San Francisco is to Fresno out here in CA. “If it plays in Peoria”...both Fresno & Peoria are big test markets for companies...supposed to represent “Middle America” I guess.

I saw the other thread, that Bill Ayers was present...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3408184/posts

That’s rich; Trump should be able to play that for effect.

This didn’t just happen, it took organizers to make it happen. I think the word is “cognitive dissonance”, you see violent protesters breaking up a Trump rally and the news people droning on and on about Trump’s supposed violence.

You will never see Trump people breaking up a Bernie rally, or shouting down a Hillary rally. Because Trump people, Republicans in general, conservatives in general, are normal people who quite simply are not violent except in extremis.

It is the Left that is violent, and uses violence as a tool. That is so obvious, it is right there in front of you on the TV screen and yet the talking heads are telling to ignore your eyes, ignore your eyes, see what we tell you to see.

Ted Cruz just saw an opportunity to take a cheap shot; he missed the chance to make the more important point. That’s too bad. Lord knows people have taken their share of cheap shots at him, but there are times when you have to lay that aside and stand with the civilized against the barbarian.

The protesters achieved their goal, not a good sign of things to come.

Other community disruptors will, like Chicago, use social media to organize and descend upon Trump rallies.

All the opportunist will arrive, BLM, Occupy, Move-On, Anarchist, Communist, SEIU, Gay Mafia, you name it.

The MSM will fuel the flames of hate till and beyond Nov.

It's gonna get real ugly, real fast.

When Geraldo arrives, you'll know it's turned into a full-blown riot.

Cruz...every time he speaks, it’s like he is giving the Gettysburg address or something.

Imagine if we all went around talking like that. Cruz does this in interviews all the time. He typically tilts his head up with a transfixed gaze too. Cruz probably does this when ordering a burger at that drive through.

The meme out there all over the cables is that TRUMP, “the candidate”, “encourages”, “urges”, his crowds to “punch people in the face”....

To my ear that is word-for-word what Cruz said last night in his press conference.

Surely you do realize the difference at these rallies, between when TRUMP is speaking to the crowd and when he is speaking to his dang security forces???

It matters who he is talking to.

All I can say is that you hear what you hear and I hear what I hear.

One of us is lying.

What he said, as you might have heard had you been paying attention, is that the responsibility for the riots rests entirely with the rioters.

However, there is a culture around the Trump campaign that seems to encourage violence, whether it’s saying he wants to punch a protester in the face or encouraging his supporters to “take out” disrupters (and he clearly doesn’t mean outside), or the attack on Michelle Fields (by someone in hsi entourage — whom Fields is convinced is the campaign manager), ort any of a number of other things.

That doesn’t excuse what happened last night in Chicago (and I would like to see Senator Sanders address it, since most of them seem to be his supporters) — but it does help explain it. The seeds you plant grow, and you can’t plant strawberries and expect to get grapes.

When you create that kind of a culture, intentionally or not, you have to expect that you’re going to get that kind of result.
