Trump's rivals pull their punches
Politico ^ | 3/10/16 | By ELI STOKOLS and SHANE GOLDMACHER

The collective reluctance to engage crystalized the state of the GOP nomination fight with five days left until winner-take-all primaries in Ohio and Florida that are must-win contests for native sons John Kasich and Rubio, respectively. They're fighting to survive, as is Cruz. But they're also looking to preserve their own dignity.

As the nomination fight approaches what could be a climactic moment where Trump becomes the GOP’s presumptive nominee, his rivals are ditching the personal insults that only Trump seems capable of executing. No one, in fact, is eager to attack him at all—even on these issues of real resonance in the states casting votes next Tuesday — after so many attempts to do so have backfired so spectacularly.

“I cannot believe how civil it’s been up here,” Trump said 30 minutes into the debate.

Most recently, Rubio saw his support collapse quickly after derisively mocking Trump in the last two debates and on the stump.

Yeah you right! An all out shock and awe attempt to take him down.

Just win it Trump.

And keep security tight around you.

Im actually wondering if that is true... It maybe sinking in... the way to tell will be if the news orgs seem to lack direction and drive for the same news story. They will seem like they are coasting... no direction.

Yeah..... I know...... Negotiation. ;-) you think either of them wont negotiate a GREAT deal for Cubans, and for us and for the people of the US?

They will have statues built of them in Havana, the new place for a prosperous America to vacation. Also, what a great place for elder care. Just think about it. Retire at a beach front virgin place with people to take care of you and your family is clamoring to come visit.

Cruz is a smart guy but not very wise. Does he not remember being thrown under the bus by the republican establishment just a couple weeks ago? Its like the pimply face nerd picked on and mocked by the football team, suddenly befriended at the lunch table by the football players right before finals time. He is totally buying into it. “ They must like me.... they really like me.... “ They will beat him like a red headed stepchild....

Remember all except Trump will support a North American Union, erasing borders with Mexico and Canada and including a common currency called the Amero.

Cruz’s wife helped draft the plan on the Council on Foreign Relations. GW supported it. It is the Gope’s baby. Do not be fooled by Cruz’s silence on the issue. Google his wife. Look at his donors.

It will destroy the America and its sovereignty. It will be an affront of greedy proportions to those who fought and died for this cuontry.

I get that some here all ready know this, but for the rest:

To say 'Trump was remarkably restrained tonite' misses half the picture.

When he's in control, he's in control.

When he appears hot headed and out of control he's ... in control.

I don't know how long it's going to take people and the media to get that he's chosen his means of expression consciously and deliberately throughout this entire process.

He KNOWS he's going to lose some people when he plays hot-head. It's a cost of doing business, because he also knows he'll get 2 more and sew up another.

He KNOWS he's going to lose people when he praises Planned Parenthool ... because he'll pick up 2 Dems for every doctrine chained conservative he loses.

So for you who keep criticizing him for this stuff -> start to realize that you are just cost of goods sold. He has to play politics, so, he plays it well. Don't take it personally or be hurt or be outraged ... to do so would be ... narcissistic.

Guy Benson is a hysterical anti-Trumper. Take a peak on twitter if you want. Not pretty.

CNN just had a long package of debate highlights and only 1 was of Cruz. Total non factor. He spent most of his time attacking Trump. Big mistake.

Cruz’s snide remark when Trump said to make him president, Cruz says president of the Smithsonian. What a phony bologna.

Cruz mentioned a couple of his tired old lies. Trump did not vote for Kerry in 2004. And a couple more but I cant remember now. Trump ignored him. He won the debate going away.

No offence, but... CNN.
They sounded, to me, like they were trying to help Rubio.

CNN really pumping Rubio for his answer on Cuba. Huge fumble by Cruz turning Cuba question into an attack on Trump. Very insulting to Cuban-Americans in FL who care deeply about that issue.

Trump got an A+ from Mark Halperin. Every one else ranked all the down the report card table.

Sums up what we all know.

Cuba is a huge issue here in FL and it was very disrespectful for Cruz to use it as a vehicle to smear Trump with. That will cost him votes.

I think that was a good assessment.... it was overall the best debate yet. The others where they were ALL yelling, minus Kasich, was a ZOO....
