CNN/ORC Poll: Trump, Clinton leading in Florida, Ohio (Ohio - Trump 41, Kasich 35, Cruz 15)
CNN ^ | March 9, 2016 | Eric Bradner

Washington (CNN)—Donald Trump is leading two of his Republican presidential rivals in their home states, topping Sen. Marco Rubio in Florida and Gov. John Kasich in Ohio, new CNN/ORC polls show.

Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, is far ahead of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in both states.

In Ohio, Trump holds 41% to Kasich's 35%, with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in third at 15% and Rubio in fourth with 7%.

And in Florida, Trump holds 40% to Rubio's 24%, with Cruz at 19% and Kasich at 5%.

The results come less than a week from the March 15 contests in Florida and Ohio, as well as Illinois, North Carolina and Missouri. The primaries in 99-delegate Florida and 66-delegate Ohio are particularly critical for Republicans, since both are winner-take-all.

Rove has joined the Romney tactic of strategic voting, encouraging Cruz voters to back Kasich in OH and Marco in FL.

Could be an interesting week...

These anti-Trumpers are so pathetic. Switching candidates? They stand for nothing obviously.

I think Michigan was a wake up call about the weakness of Hillary. The only thing keeping her in the race is the feminist ownership of the party.

And Bernie not touching the emails issues. Imagine if he was hammering on that in every one of the 1,000 debates and townhalls they have had. Clinton would be down with Cruz at 20% in the polls.

No, a candidate can release their delegates, but they cannot give them to another candidate. Released delegates can then vote for whoever they like.

However, in most States, the candidates get to select who will be delegates for them should they earn delegates. So if, for example, Cruz were to release his delegates and then endorse Trump, a vast majority of his delegates would follow his endorsement and vote for Trump on the first ballot because they were picked by Cruz as loyal supporters.

There will be only two candidates at a brokered convention. Trump and GOPe (for the moment that is Cruz).

The establishment will never, ever, ever, ever, ever give Cruz the nomination. Not a chance. They hate him almost as much as they hate Trump.

Cruz knows this. That is why he has said flat out that there will be no contested convention.

Why?

Because there is no chance that Cruz will allow the establishment to pick one of their own to represent the party after he and Trump have beaten them over and over again.

Before the first ballot:

Cruz will release his delegates.
Cruz will endorse Trump.
Trump will pick Cruz to be his running mate.
The establishment’s (and a good number of Freepers’) heads will explode.
The establishment will be left with nothing.

Yes, he has to win both.

If all the other candidates die, then there’s a path, but that isn’t very likely.

If he loses Ohio and Florida he will need 77% of the remaining delegates to win.

That isn’t going to happen, not with Trump polling higher than him in almost every state and Kasich dividing the vote.

I see Cruz wins in closed primaries and Trump in open.

Possible path to victory: Trump gets run over by a truck driven by Karl Rove. Cruz gives a great speech that rivals the Gettysburg Address and is unanimously proclaimed the GOP Nominee.

This an election year. Stuff happens.

He won in Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, and Hawaii.

All are closed primaries.

Newest Q-Poll
March 09, 2016 at 8:41 PM

http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2016/03/poll_donald_trump_widens_lead.html

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohio Gov. John Kasich is failing to close the gap between him and Donald Trump among GOP primary voters in his own state, according to a new poll.

And in a particularly concerning sign for Kasich, the new Quinnipiac University poll, released Wednesday, suggests he is not gaining on Trump even as voters abandon other GOP candidates in the lead up to Ohio’s March 15 primary.

The poll of likely Ohio Republican primary voters found Trump leading Kasich 38 percent to 32 percent. That’s compared to

Trump’s 31 percent to 26 percent lead in the university’s last poll, released on Feb. 23.

Compared to two weeks ago, the new survey shows Trump and Kasich more or less splitting voters as Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz lost ground. Rubio’s support dropped from 13 percent to 9 percent, and Cruz’s support dropped from 21 percent to 16 percent.

The new poll also omits retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson who had polled at 5 percent in February, but who has since suspended his campaign.

Cruz is never, ever going to endorse Trump. You’re just trying to make it more palatable for conservatives to vote for him. Cruz has shown his colors and it’s clear to all where he stands. With Romney, Bush & and rest of the GOPe and against us.

Kasick was a long time commentator with his own show on Fox prior to becoming governor of Ohio.

The Fox poll uses Shaw & Company (hedge fund) with fieldwork from Braun (data mining with panels)

Respondents were randomly selected from a statewide voter file of Ohio registered Republicans and unaffiliated voters using a probability proportionate to size method. This simply means respondents are proportionally representative to the number of voters in all regions across Ohio. Fieldwork conducted by Braun Research, Inc. of Princeton, NJ.

They also used unaffiliated voters for Ohio primary - meaning schematically chosen. Most all of these types of polls show Trump losing until he wins.

“I think Trump’s lead has been eroding over the last month once Kasich did well in New Hampshire.”

Get with RECENT history. New Hampshire was last century in primary politics.

If you think that Trump’s lead was eroding since Kasich did so well in New Hampshire, what about the effect of Kasich’s tragic performance in Michigan, a state he said was his springboard to his victory in Ohio?

How can his pitiful performance in Michigan, a state he was touting as almost a sure thing for him, INCREASE his chances in Ohio? Answer..... it won’t.

His performance in Michigan was exceptional compared with what it was supposed to be, and NH is his talking point, so the answer for his going up in Ohio is those talking points PLUS media bashing against Trump, but they are a package.

I am fairly sure if Trump wins Ohio and Floriduh that Cruz is done.

I was hoping he would get some momentum by now but it just does not seem to be happening.
