Anti-Trump Republicans Come to Terms With Cruz Nomination

Anxious Republican officials are coming to terms with the idea that their second least favorite GOP presidential candidate — polarizing Texas conservative Ted Cruz — may be the party's best last chance to stop Donald Trump.

"It's an outsider year, and the most logical person to take on Trump based on past performance is Ted Cruz," said another former presidential opponent, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham. Earlier in the year, Graham likened the choice between Cruz and Trump to "being shot or poisoned."

"He's not my preference," Graham said of Cruz. "But we are where we are. And if Trump wins Florida and Ohio, I don't know if we can stop him."

Indeed, next Tuesday's winner-take-all contests in Florida and Ohio have injected a sense of urgency into the GOP's anti-Trump movement.

The billionaire businessman is calling on mainstream Republicans to unify behind his candidacy ahead of next week's primaries, which could give him an insurmountable delegate lead.

"If I win those two, I think it's over," Trump told CNN's "Anderson Cooper's 360."

How does the GOP-E take control if there are a combined 1900 Trump and Cruz delegates?

Why are you asking me? I said nothing about the party bosses taking over; the poster I responded to did...

I simply noted the preponderance of individuals on this site who think there’s a difference between a ‘brokered’ andd ‘contested’ convention, as if one is ok and the other a huge no no...

Cruz is a complete sellout. Hiring Neil Bush..CFR..the emperor has no clothes

Cruz has zero appeal beyond the conservative base..zero. Hillary will crush him and don’t show me any stupid meaningless polls right now.

He is creepy

I said the other day that Cruz would not move the EV meter one iota, arriving at the 2012 332-206 total; I now revise that, as he may lose North Carolina as well, so...

We’re looking at 347-191; pretty stiff beating...

A contested convention has no candidate with a pledged majority. If that’s what the process yields, there’s no alternative. In 1976, for example, uncommitteds decided it without need for ‘brokering’.

A brokered convention is actually an open convention. There are no longer any brokers who control blocs of delegates. Delegates are almost all autonomous, having been elected by folks back home and owing party bosses nothing.

Cruz did not hire Neil Bush, the Bush family assigned Neil the job of helping Cruz stop Trump. Cruz is and always has been a Bushie. Cruzs' job was to split the conservative vote clearing a path for Jeb, no one expected a Trump.

However all the masks are coming off and it is a plain as day the Ted Cruz is as GOPe as any Bush.

Now it is a test of raw political power. The pretenting to be a princibled conservative game is over. The do anything and everything to stop Trump is the name of the game now.

You’ve completely contradicted yourself...

In 1976, for example, uncommitteds decided it without need for ‘brokering’.

You could just as easily say they decided it without ‘contesting’ as Ford won on the first ballot, and there was no floor fight...as to whether there were any back room bartering, who knows...

You can assign your own private meanings to all the words you want. Others will not necessarily go along.

My ‘private meanings’ to words are all contained within any Standard English dictionary, and are all easily researched..

Now once more...how is a ‘brokered’ convention one in which there are no ‘brokers’...

It is their last route to a crooked convention.

When you look ar Cruz’s accomplishmentsmin the Senate, they are right up there with Hitlery’s...a stepping stone to the Presidency.

Where have we seen that before?

A few quotes from Mark Twain about Congress might be in order:

“..I never can think of Judas Iscariot without losing my temper. To my mind Judas Iscariot was nothing but a low, mean, premature, Congressman.”
- “Foster’s Case,” New York Tribune, 10 March 1873

“It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.”
- Pudd’nhead Wilson’s New Calendar

“Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.”
- Mark Twain, a Biography

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but Trump has gotten millions of dollars worth of “free press”.”

It’s a good point.

“And he is supposedly the front runner.”

That’s silly spin. He IS the front runner.

“So yes, the media has chosen our next candidate again and he will lose to Hillary.”

I don’t think so. And the poll numbers (state by state) support Trump over Cruz.

And I’m not anti-Cruz.

?

Cruz is still ahead of Hillary in NC (RCP)....

But now trails in OH.

Ding Ding Ding !!!! We have a winner. That is exactly what they’re going to do. Romney already filed his papers. I’m sure Mitt will find a place for Cruz in one of his departments as a payoff. No VP, thats for Ryan.

Creepy Cruz may be to some, but he knows well the GOPe will always be his enemy.

By allowing Bush and others to snuggle up, Cruz is playing the keep your enemies closer card.

Cruz knows well, the GOPe will not back him if comes down to the convention.

So what’s Cruz doing about it?

Cruz is working to win 1237 delegates at the ballot box, period. That’s the only way he becomes the nominee.

If Cruz can gain support from his enemies towards that goal, why the heck not?

So, are we to believe the GOPe is becoming the GOP E?

Not true, we stated our reasons for not liking him and his lack of character. People, such as yourself, choose not to hear that and prefer to live with the meme that he is perfect and that anyone who says anything bad about Cruz is blasphemous.

The GOP will never again see one of theirs elected President if it ain’t Trump nominated this year.

How the media and the establishment cannot recognize this is an impossibility.

These days they only care that Trump is boxed out. Nothing else matters.

Cruz is being played. It’s all about getting to a contested convention. And once there, does Cruz really think they’ll pick him? If he does, I have a bridge up for sale he might be interested in.

But Cruz isn’t going to get to 1237. He’s just going to keep Trump from that—and then the GOPe will swoop down and put their own candidate in.

Cruz’s blind ambition is screwing the country.
