Cruz: I'm fine with contested convention
The Hill ^ | 03-09-2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Ted Cruz says he would have no problem with a contested convention over the summer in the event neither he nor Donald Trump secures enough delegates before then to lock up the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump suggested Wednesday morning on "Fox and Friends" that Cruz was making the statement "because he had such a bad night last night."

GOD IN HEAVEN, I *HATE* TABLOID JOURNALISM!

This deceptive headline creates a TOTALLY WRONG narrative.

Cruz DID NOT say he was OK with a contested convention if Trump locks up the number of delegates needed to secure the nomination. But that’s for damned sure what the bastard headline writer wants you to think!

Cruz said he would be OK with a contested convention IF — AND ONLY IF — NOBODY locked in the number of delegates needed to secure the nomination. I’m PRETTY DAMNED CERTAIN Cruz would NOT be cool with a contested convention otherwise.

Romney was 200 delegates short. He was also behind Trump’s current delegate count.

Why was Milt never contested??

Maybe because there was no one to give him a contest? Just a wild guess. His closest rival had 245 delegates.

This is a discussion about a contested convention, not a brokered convention. There's a big difference.

That’s the way it is supposed to be. Go to the convention with 1,237 and it is all yours. But don’t and the gloves come off and the brass knucks go on and it is anybody wins. Loser walks.

I have a feeling donnie will go with enough to take it but the overtime may not be to his liking, especially if he makes any of his childish threats.

Good to see you too!

I remember seeing an interview with Walter ‘On The Fritz’ Mondale years after he lost in that ‘84 blowout to Reagan, and he said that when Reagan fired off that quip about “not exploiting, for partisan political purposes, his opponents youth and inexperience” and the laughter that followed, he knew right then and there that Reagan had won re-election.

Good times FRiend, the best of times.

Yep. The GOPE will let Cruz keep his “anti-establishment outsider” status and install him as Ryan’s VP as a “conciliatory” gesture. And some Cruz ppl will lap it up, thinking they’re truly getting a compromise from the GOPE. They’ll fall hook, line and sinker.

What’s amazing is we saw this “conservative” VP movie only FOUR years ago. It has a bad ending. But Cruzers are in so deeply emotionally invested in him now they can’t see what is right in front of their noses.

Wow, guess he’s not so anti-establishment after all.

----------

Cruz is disliked the senate for being a backstabber not because he was anti-establishment like being against unfair trade and open borders. They are angry at him for grandstanding gestures like closing the govt - that does nothing but get him good press on talk show radio. Why didn't Cruz shut the govt down on immigration amnesty?

Non eligible, not Natural Born Citizens, Cubans, Chihuahua Prespiration Marko and Pinocchio Desperation Ted attacking Big Donald at CNN freestyle match.

Cruz "character":
1. Phony summonses mailed out, scaring people to vote for Cruz.
2. Claiming Carson quit, presinc captains told voters "vote for Cruz"
3. Campaigning in the 800 churches, showing video "vote for me" with his preacher/father stomping for him. Rafael Cruz is a 7 Mountain Dominionist and believes his son is the anointed one.
4. "Brilliant" lawyer, did not know he was Canadian citizen and that he is not Natural Born Citizen, not eligible for office of P or VP.
5. Making phony video advertising with lies about opponents.
6. Phony video about Rubio - Obama.
7. 7 Mountain Dominionist Church = Christian???
Just enough to beat Trump in IA, apologize, rinse and repeat? Liar is the polite term for this Cuban. His father was pro-communist in Cuba, imprisoned by Batista, but now he is refugee?

IRREFUTABLE AUTHORITY HAS SPOKEN
(Oct. 18, 2009) The Post & Email has in several articles mentioned that the Supreme Court of the United States has given the definition of what a "natural born citizen" is. Since being a natural born citizen is an objective qualification and requirement of office for the U.S. President (and VP), it is important for all U.S. Citizens to understand what this term means.
http://www.thepostemail.com/2009/10/18/4-supreme-court-cases-define-natural-born-citizen/
Applies to Cruz and Rubio, both at the time not born to US citizens and on US soil.

The Bush Family has run the Republican since 1988.

No more GD Bush influence in the White House.

Yeah, well, except that he QUALIFIED his statement saying he was OK with a contested convention IN THE EVENT THAT nobody had the nomination locked up by winning the required number of delegates.

About now you probably should be thinking, “Oh, so Cruz probably ISN’T cool with a contested convention if Trump comes in with the number of delegates needed to secure the nomination. Huh. Perhaps he’s not so ‘establishment’ after all, and maybe I should brush up on my reading comprehension.”

This was the plan all along.

Cruz is an opportunist, who thought that running as a conservative will get him the nomination. Now he is doing the GOPe’s dirty work for them and is too deluded to realize that they are just using him and will dump him, when he finished his task of stopping Trump.

Just hope that his supporters wake up, realize what is happening and get behind Trump, who is effective and will indeed implement conservative principles. Why else do you think the GOPe is doing everything to get rid of him?

Cruz is the only alternative candidate who currently qualifies under rule 40 - won 8 states.

I’ll still vote for Trump over Hillary, but hope Cruz wins.

Last night’s press conference came off very goofy.

The problem is that the convention is not setup that way and never has been. As far as I know, the convention has NEVER awarded the nomination to the candidate with the plurality of delegates. You have always needed a majority of delegates.

The only way to ensure that Trump wins the nomination with only a plurality of delegates would be be to change the rules of the convention prior to it starting.

Is that what you are advocating? Do you think they should change the rules at the last minute to force all of the delegates to support the candidate with the most delegates?

Can you see how that could be used against conservatives in the future?

If Trump ends up with 1100 delegates and Cruz ends up with 800 delegates they will each have to try and convince the remaining delegates that they are the best candidate. If enough delegates committed to Rubio, Kasich and Carson decide they want to support Cruz over Trump, that means Cruz wins. There is nothing underhanded or sneaky or corrupt about that process. That is the way it has always worked and in any situation other than one where it hurts your candidate, you would think it was the best procedure for selecting a nominee. You are just butt-hurt because it probably won't favor your candidate. If Jeb had 1100 delegates going into the convention and Trump/Cruz/Carson were splitting the rest, you would have no problem with the outsiders banding together against Jeb.

On the other hand, if they change the rules or have a brokered convention (not contested). I would be outraged as well. If Trump gets to 1237 and they somehow take it away from him, I agree that it will be war. I will be on Trump's side.

I don’t have to do squat for Cruz, Trump or anyone. He said quite clearly that if no one had a majority, you tell me what happens if none of the candidates has a clear majority? I don’t believe that will happen, but his statement does not go against what he said earlier. I will call out the bogus whether it is posted about Cruz or Trump. There are enough real issues without the BS posts.

That is an excellent point! I agree, and as days roll on, more gets revealed. He is certainly NOT what he has portrayed himself to be, imho.
